The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 26

She couldn't stand the thought of seeing that woman for even one more day.

A few minutes later, Lance stepped out of the lounge, clicking a sleek silver watch onto his wrist.

“Lance.”

Adelina quickly set her phone back on the desk. “Why are you here working so late? Don’t you ever sleep?”

A shadow of discomfort flickered across Lance’s face. He rubbed his temples. “I had some urgent stuff to finish.”

“Well, you’re done now. Go get some rest,” Adelina said, her voice gentle.

It was only six-thirty, still two hours before anyone else would show up for work.

“I’m fine.” Lance pulled out his chair and sat down, looking exhausted.

“The company’s been crazy lately. You need to take care of yourself if you want to end the year on a good note. If you push yourself too hard and get sick, who’s going to take care of me during the holidays?” Adelina teased, snatching the file he’d just reached for. “Come on, go rest. Catherine can wake you up when she gets in.”

Ever since they took on the government project, the workload had doubled. With just three days left until the holiday break, Lance still had a mountain of work to finish.

He looked completely worn out. After thinking it over, he finally stood up. “Alright. You should go get some sleep too.”

Adelina nodded, walking him to the door of the lounge and watching to make sure he actually lay down before heading out.

On her way out of SilverLeaf Industries, Adelina sent a message to Shirley.

[Lance worked all night. Nobody is allowed to disturb him. Give anything urgent to Catherine.]

Shirley replied right away. [Understood!]

With Adelina’s instructions, Shirley stationed herself right outside Lance’s office as soon as she arrived at work.

Anyone who came by looking for Lance got turned away, and she started piling all their files on Catherine’s desk.

At nine o’clock, Aaron finally came out of the conference room.

“Where’s Lance?”

Shirley was sitting in a chair near the office, but she shot up when she saw Aaron’s worried face. “He’s sleeping. Adelina said only Catherine can wake him.”
