The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 286

“Move.” Lance spoke quietly, but his voice held so much authority that Sophia felt it in her bones.

She swallowed hard. “Okay,” she said softly, pushing the door open.

The room was a wash of light pink, cute and sweet, which just made Lance’s serious expression look even more out of place.

He walked in with a frown, sitting on the sofa near the foot of the bed. “So. You haven’t been going to work. What’s going on?”

“Didn’t Grandma mention it?” Sophia asked, trying to avoid his gaze.

“I want to hear it from you.” Lance crossed his legs and folded his hands, looking every bit the strict boss.

He absentmindedly traced circles with his thumb, his whole vibe serious and a little intimidating.

Sophia hesitated, then sighed. “My supervisor started hitting on me. I turned him down, and now he’s making things difficult for me at work. Lance, can you transfer me to another department?”

She hadn’t dared to say any of this to Fiona. If Fiona found out, she’d probably march into the company and give that supervisor a piece of her mind, maybe even threaten him with a kitchen knife, just to make her point. That would totally expose Sophia’s real identity, though, and she actually wanted to keep lying low as a regular employee for a couple more years.

“I get it.”

Lance didn’t answer her request directly. “Stay home for now. I’ll take care of him, and then you can go back.”

Sophia’s eyes lit up. “It’s so nice having someone powerful on your side! When will you handle it, Lance? Can I go back tomorrow?”

“Don’t rush it.” Lance paused. “You haven’t had a real break since you started working. Take a couple of days off at home and rest.”

Sophia stared at him, wide-eyed. This was weird. Lance was all about squeezing work out of her. When had he ever told her to relax?

“Catherine put in for a transfer. She’ll be leaving soon. You should find time to see her.”

His tone was a little loaded.

Sophia had already heard the news. “I’ve been wanting to meet up with Catherine, but I was worried I’d cause trouble for you.”
