The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 3

Catherine had always been the brightest kid at the orphanage, the one everyone said would go places. Thanks to her grades, she landed a full scholarship to the top university in the country.

That’s when she met Lance. Out of all the rich boys she’d seen, he was the one who stood out. There was just something about him that drew her in, and before she knew it, he had become the center of her world.-

She thought the two years they spent married, the late nights tangled up together, would be enough. She figured those memories would keep her warm for a lifetime.

But then she got pregnant.

She tried to convince herself to end it, but she just couldn’t. This baby was the only blood relative she’d ever have. The idea of giving that up hurt too much.

She worried Lance would try to take the baby away, but deep down, she also hoped maybe he wouldn’t even want to claim it. Maybe, if he was scared of upsetting Adelina, he’d just pretend the baby wasn’t his.

Catherine let out a long sigh and glanced down at her flat stomach. Lance might not remember what happened that night, but she wanted to be ready for anything. If she could just stay out of his sight, maybe she could have the baby in secret, and he’d never find out.

And even if he did, after everything that happened, maybe he wouldn’t believe it was his anyway.

As the end of the year approached, SilverLeaf Industries held its annual review. Catherine showed up at the main office with her yearly report, but she also brought along a resignation letter.

She was ready to run. She wanted to get as far away from Cabinda, as far away from Lance, as she possibly could.

The meeting was supposed to start at 9:10, but by 9:30, there was still no sign of Lance.

“I just saw Adelina when I came in,” another manager whispered as he slipped into the room. “She’s in Lance’s office.”

“No wonder he’s late. He’s with Adelina.”

Lance was known for being punctual and all about work. Adelina showing up was enough to throw off even his routine.
