He glanced over at Ivan. Ivan shot a look at Isaac.
Isaac’s face was all sharp angles and mismatched features, twisting now with obvious irritation. “Catherine, you’re just Lance’s lapdog—”
“Isaac, I’m asking you to leave.” Catherine’s tone was cool. “If you refuse, I’ll call security.”
At her words, the head of security ducked his head, looking like he’d rather disappear.
Ivan let out a low laugh. “Wow, Catherine, feeling powerful today? You’ve landed us in this mess and now nobody’s allowed to question you? Just because Lance is backing you up doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want. Ingram personally sent Isaac here to keep an eye on you.”
Catherine didn’t flinch. “Did SilverLeaf Industries suddenly change its name to Buck?” she shot back. “If Isaac is really here on Ingram’s orders, that means Ingram’s going around Lance. Maybe I should give Lance a call and check?”
She picked up her phone, about to dial.
Isaac might be Ingram’s son and had some weight in the business world, but Lance and Ingram were practically at war these days. Catherine couldn’t give the Buck family any ground—that’d be a slap in Lance’s face.
“Don’t you dare use Lance to threaten me.” Isaac stood up, his chair scraping loudly. “Even if he was here, he wouldn’t dare kick me out.”
That part was true. Lance probably wouldn’t, but he’d definitely let Catherine do it and give her a secret thumbs up for it later. She knew him well enough for that.
“You’re misunderstanding, Isaac.” Catherine met his eyes, her voice steady. “I’m asking you to leave, politely. If you won’t go, I’ll have to find another way. My time’s short, so I’d appreciate it if you’d take care of yourself.”
Isaac had come in ready to tear her down, but she’d unraveled his plans in seconds. He looked furious, spun around, and stormed out of the room.
Ivan followed him to the door. Isaac muttered a few last instructions before he finally left, clearly still fuming.
The conference room door closed behind them, and the room went dead quiet.
