The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 372

“Get some sleep. I’ll bring you breakfast in the morning.”

Lorinda’s voice floated through the door, gentle but determined. “If you won’t admit it, then he can’t do anything about it. And if it gets to be too much, we’ll just quit. We don’t have to deal with him. I’ll take you somewhere new…”

She rambled on for a bit, her words slipping into the quiet before finally fading as she walked away.

Catherine went to the bathroom to wash up. As soon as she opened the door, she spotted a button by the sink, matte black and perfectly still.

It was Lance’s.

She stared at it for a few seconds, then picked it up and tossed it in the trash like it meant nothing.

Harrell pulled up to pick Lance up. The ride was quiet, neither of them saying a word.

Harrell finally broke the silence. “You feeling better?”

“Yeah.”

“So why’d you show up to the party alone? Where was Catherine?”

As soon as he said her name, Lance’s expression darkened.

A thought flickered in Lance’s eyes. “Back in Cabinda, you were Catherine’s OB, right?”

“Yeah,” Harrell answered, waiting for more.

“Did any guy ever go with her to her appointments?”

Harrell shook his head. “Nope. I asked the nurses. None of them ever saw her husband.”

Pretty much every other pregnant woman had her husband by her side at those appointments.

Catherine was always alone. Sometimes Lorinda would go with her, but never a man.

The nurses had definitely gossiped about it.

“Is there any way to find out who the father is?” Lance asked, drumming his fingers on his thigh.

“That’s illegal.”

“Just do it. Don’t argue.”

Lance’s voice was cold, his brow tight.

Harrell kept his eyes on the road, letting out a sigh. “If you have two samples, you can do a DNA test. Who do you want to compare the baby to?”
