The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 384

Lance’s gaze drifted away and he pulled his attention back.

“Lance, I made you lunch,” Adelina said softly, holding up a thermal container. She set it on his desk and started opening each compartment, arranging everything neatly.

Lance’s face didn’t show a hint of emotion. “When are you going back to Cabinda?”

Adelina’s hands hesitated for a second, but she quickly recovered.

“When are you heading back?” she asked, voice low.

“I’ll leave once you finish your check-up.”

He leaned back in his chair, looking so at ease it almost felt careless, like nothing really fazed him.

Adelina bit her lip, her eyes still red from crying. The flush on her cheeks deepened.

“Lance, I just wanted to see you. I’m not trying to get out of the check-up, honestly. I just… I have to keep it from my mom and I haven’t found the right moment to tell her.”

Lance didn’t say anything, just stared at her in silence.

Adelina tried again, her voice even softer. “Can we have lunch together? I heard Harrell’s in Eldervale too. Maybe we could all eat together?”

Lance finally looked at her, his eyes sharp. “Who told you Harrell’s in Eldervale?”

He’d taken Harrell’s phone. Harrell didn’t have any way to contact anyone. Unless someone was really digging, nobody should know he was here.

“My friend ran into him here. Isn’t he working at the children’s hospital now?” Adelina’s tone was a little shaky as she searched for a topic. “Wasn’t he an OB-GYN before? Why’s he working in pediatrics all of a sudden?”

“I don’t know,” Lance replied, his voice flat.

“Well, maybe we can ask him when we have dinner,” Adelina said, almost whispering.

There was a long pause before Lance finally nodded. “Alright. I’ll set it up. You can go now.”
