The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 397

Catherine stared, completely lost for words.

She frowned, giving Lorinda a serious look.

Lorinda wiped her nose. “You’ll get it when you have kids, trust me. You can tell yourself to be rational all you want, but you just can’t help feeling bad for them.”

Catherine almost said she understood, but then figured Lorinda probably wouldn’t hear it anyway. She decided not to say anything at all.

Lorinda kept going. “It’s kind of like when your head told you to leave Lance. You did it, but it still hurt, didn’t it?” She sniffled again, louder this time.

Catherine let out a sigh. “Okay, enough. You already know all this, so why are you taking shots at me?”

“I feel awful, so why should you be fine?” Lorinda grumbled, looking downright pitiful.

“Remember the night you and Lance got divorced? You were crying, and I stayed up with you all night. I’ve never even dated anyone, but I was still there for you. Can’t you at least not be so calm? You’re making me feel like an idiot here.”

Catherine’s head started to ache. “Clearly, you’re not that upset anymore if you have the energy to mess with me.”

Lorinda shot back, “Who’s messing with you? That night your pillow was soaked from crying. And that time you drank too much, you said if you had another chance, you’d never ask for a divorce again…”

Catherine felt a pang in her chest. After two years of marriage to Lance, even if he was always distant, she got used to coming home and finding him there. She did cry when they split. Not long after, news broke that Lance was seeing Adelina, and she got drunk and said all kinds of stupid stuff. She barely remembered it, but Lorinda remembered everything, always ready to remind her at the worst times.

Catherine decided to let it go, since Lorinda was obviously having a rough time.

“The elevator’s here, come on,” she said, pulling Lorinda inside. They both turned to face the doors.

Suddenly, they saw Harrell standing outside, hands in his white coat pockets.

Lorinda froze.

Catherine’s brain went completely blank.

“What are you doing here?” Lorinda blurted out.

Harrell stepped into the elevator, face unreadable. “Making my rounds.”

Right, he was a pediatrician now.
