The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 401

Gavin knew where to draw the line, especially since Catherine was pregnant. When he leaned on her, he barely used any real strength, just enough to steady himself.

Catherine grabbed his sleeve, her brow pinched as if helping him was more trouble than it was worth.

They entered her apartment one after the other. The lights on the first floor clicked on, flooding the place with a bright, almost daylight glow. Outside, the world looked a lot darker by comparison. No one would have noticed the figure standing quietly in the shadows by the roadside.

“Sit down,” Catherine said, nodding at the sofa before heading upstairs to grab the first-aid kit.

Gavin sat like he was told, glancing around the apartment. “I’ve got to admit, Lance really hooked you up with this place.”

Normally, someone in Catherine’s position would get a big flat from the company. This apartment was about that size, but the amenities were on another level for Eldervale. It felt like a serious upgrade.

Catherine didn’t say anything. She came back with the first-aid kit and started tending to his leg.

“I need to clean this with saline first,” she told him. “It’s going to hurt, so get ready.”

She sat on the floor, tilting her head and focusing intently as she worked.

Gavin tried to play it cool. “I’m tough, I can—ow! Damn!” The moment the saline touched his wound, he gasped. The pain hit him hard, sharp and deep. He jerked, clutching the edge of the sofa like he was about to pass out.

“If it hurts, bite down on something,” Catherine advised, not missing a beat.

His hand thudded against the sofa, face turning red. “Bite what?”

Without looking up, Catherine kept working. “Bite your tongue. It’s just running its mouth anyway.”

Gavin let out a strangled groan. Even his hair seemed to stand on end. “Focus. If women can handle giving birth, I can handle this. I’m not about to let a little pain take me down.”

Catherine smirked, setting aside the saline and dabbing iodine on his leg with a cotton swab. “Don’t get it wet for a few days. Try to be careful.”
