The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 443

Catherine spent about ten minutes whipping up a quick hangover soup. When she brought it out for Gavin, the steam rose between them, curling softly in the air.

Through the kitchen window, Lance caught sight of them right away. From where he stood, it looked like they were nestled close together on the couch. His brows drew together and his eyes went dark. He pulled a cigarette from his pocket, stuck it between his lips, and lit it.

Inside, Catherine and Gavin were actually sitting a good distance apart. Catherine glanced over at him. “Can you tell me now?”

Gavin let out a sigh. “The director from your orphanage spent all the money you and Lorinda gave her.”

He looked genuinely disappointed. “She’s been gambling. Did you know?”

Catherine stared at him, her mind blank for a second. “You… you can’t be serious.”

“I wish I was making it up.” Gavin pulled a stack of photos from inside his suit and handed them to her. “See for yourself.”

Catherine took the photos, flipping through them. There were dozens, all taken at different times but always in the same place, always of the same person.

Amanda looked completely different. The woman who always wore old clothes and an apron around the orphanage, never any makeup, was now dressed to the nines. Heavy makeup, a bright red dress, sitting at a gambling table. Her eyes shone with a hard light, reflecting the piles of cash spread across the table.

Catherine shook her head, still not believing it. “These have to be fake. Photoshopped or something.”

Gavin pressed a hand to his chest. “I have nothing against her. Why would I make this up? I had people dig up the truth.”
