The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 444

While he was on the phone, Catherine reheated the hangover soup and left it on the stove for a few more minutes.

When Gavin came back, he looked genuinely happy, his grin almost too wide.

“Catherine, I honestly never thought I’d end up with a friend like you.” That alone was weird enough, considering she was not only a woman, but also his rival’s assistant.

Catherine handed him the hot soup.

“Even friends have to respect boundaries. Drink this, then go home. It’s the middle of the night. It’s not really appropriate for you to be here.”

“You’re pregnant. What do you think I could possibly do?” Gavin looked a little sulky at being told to leave.

“I’m just worried you’ll get caught up in my mess,” Catherine said.

It hadn’t been long since the story about her pregnancy had hit the news. The Lee family had tried to keep it quiet, but who knew when some reporter might dig it all up again for the next big headline.

Gavin scoffed. “You think I’m scared of them? If people start talking, I’ll just admit it. I’ll say I’m the baby’s godfather. That counts for something, right?”

Catherine was stunned. “Godfather?”

Gavin gave her a look, eyes wide. “We’re friends, aren’t we? Can’t I be the godfather to your baby?”

Were they really that close? They’d only just started calling each other friends.

“If you want, I can be the god-grandfather,” Gavin added with a smirk. “That way I’d be a whole generation above Lance.”

Catherine shot him a look. “How about just god-brother?”

Gavin laughed, making a clicking sound with his tongue. “Let’s split the difference. Godfather it is.”

He started sipping the soup in small mouthfuls, still teasing her. The more she talked to Gavin, the more she realized that he was actually easy to be around. He knew how to keep things light, how to give people space, and it felt surprisingly comfortable.

One cup of soup wasn’t enough, so Catherine stood up and went to the kitchen to make him some hangover tea. Gavin stayed in the living room, chatting away so loudly she could hear every word.
