The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 455

“Huh?”

Letty felt her heart drop. “What happened this time? Why are you at the office so early?”

Catherine stood at the bottom of the building and glanced up. “I’ll explain everything after it’s done.”

She hung up and headed inside. The place was completely empty, just like she’d hoped. She wanted to make it to the top floor before anyone else showed up. But to her surprise, Lance was already there.

A few minutes later, in Lance’s office, Catherine stood in the middle of the room. She’d practiced what to say so many times, running through every scenario in her head. Now that she was actually here, facing him, her mind went completely blank.

Lance slid open his desk drawer, took out a resignation agreement, and pushed it across to her. “Go ahead and sign.”

Without thinking, Catherine blurted, “I haven’t even given you my answer yet.”

“You’ve always wanted to leave,” Lance said, his voice direct and matter-of-fact. “There’s no reason for you to stay.”

He watched her closely. “What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you suddenly can’t let go now that you’re actually free to leave.”

Catherine stared at the document, her face calm but her eyes giving away a storm of emotions. She took a slow breath, grabbed a pen from her bag, flipped straight to the last page, and signed her name.

Catherine.

Her handwriting was soft but strong, with a little edge to it.

As she finished the last stroke, Lance’s gaze shifted away.

“Just so you know, if any company secrets get leaked, you’ll be the first person investigated. If it turns out you’re involved, you’ll have to pay the company back double,” he said, his voice cold and detached, just quoting the contract.

Catherine clicked the pen cap back on and set it next to the agreement. “Alright.”

“You’re not going to read the terms?” Lance motioned for her to look through the whole thing.

She shook her head. “I trust you.”

Lance let out a quiet laugh, like he couldn’t decide if he was annoyed or amused.
