The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 568

Amanda sprang up from the sofa and rushed over to Catherine, clutching her hand, desperation etched deep into her tired, drawn features.

Catherine immediately withdrew her hand. "Tell me the truth, and I’ll make sure they let you go."

"What truth?" Amanda’s tears spilled over, streaming down her cheeks. "I was just paid to do someone else’s dirty work! I don’t know anything more. Adela gave me some money to take you and Lorinda away—what the whole thing was really about, I have no idea!"

Gavin let out a sharp, derisive snort. "That’s not what you just said. What’s the real story, Amanda?"

"I said all that to get free room and board out of you. Now… if I leave this place, I’ve got nothing but a death sentence waiting for me!" Amanda shot a longing glance at the window, eyes flickering with a hunger for freedom. "I’m the only one who knows what really happened. The Lee family is definitely hunting me down. If they catch me, it’ll be bad. Real bad."

"If you know they won’t show you any mercy," Catherine said coolly, "then you should help me deal with them."

Amanda hesitated, her eyes flicking to Catherine in surprise. "You don’t want to go back to the Lee family?"

Catherine didn’t answer.

Amanda suddenly burst out laughing—a high, twisted sound that sent chills crawling up Catherine’s spine. "That’s right—don’t go back. Geoffrey’s finally getting what’s coming to him! He’s a scheming, vicious snake. If you set one foot inside the Lee house, they’ll eat you alive, bones and all."

Catherine’s few encounters with Geoffrey had left her with nothing but misgivings; now Amanda’s words only deepened her unease.

"If Geoffrey has something on you, tell me what it is. Maybe I can help," Catherine offered.

Amanda’s glare slid over her face. "You’ve got Geoffrey’s blood running through your veins. You’re just as cruel as he is. Lorinda—she’s the only truly innocent one in all this. Not a word out of your mouth is trustworthy! Catherine, blame your heartless parents for the mess you’re in. You deserve every bit of it—"

She pressed toward Catherine, crowding her back with every step. Catherine’s heart pounded, chest tight with panic as she retreated.
