Chapter 623 Protests

Judy’s POV

“I’ll come with you,” I said before I could think better of it.

Gavin raised his brows.

“Weren’t you just telling me that you weren’t feeling good?” He asked as he rested his warm palms on my belly, feeling our baby’s soft flutter. “Maybe you should just get into bed and rest. I can have someone bring you soup later.”

“No, I’m feeling fine,” I tell him, a bit hurriedly. “It’s passing. I think it was just a little gas or something. Nothing to be alarmed about. We can go to the packhouse.”

He stared at me for a moment longer, a crease forming between his brows.

“Are you sure?” He asked after a moment of pause.

I nodded.

“Yes,” I said, wrapping my arms around his waist and pulling myself close to his chest as I peered up at him. “I want to go to the packhouse with you and see what the situation is. Maybe I can help. I am going to be the Luna after all… so I should be prepared for stuff like this.”

I caught Irene’s wide eyes, and she mouthed, “What are you doing?”

To which I mouthed back, “I have no idea.”

Gavin ran his fingers through my hair and smiled down at me; he leaned down and kissed my lips softly.

“Okay,” he finally relented. “I’ll get the car ready. Just get your shoes and coat, and we will get out of here.”

Not long before, we left the villa and headed towards the packhouse as a family. My heart was racing in my chest; I had no idea what I was doing or why I suggested going to the packhouse with him… but I just knew that if I wasn’t with him, they might convince him that I’m not the right one for him.

I already lost one mate… I didn’t want to lose another. I pressed the palms of my hands to my belly as if I could use our baby to ground me. I refused to let my son grow up without a father because of some she- wolves.

I felt Gavin’s warm hand on my thigh and looked over at him; he kept sparing small glances in my direction.

“Are you okay?” He asked. “You seem lost in thought.”

I stared at the side of his face while his eyes remained fixed on the road in front of us. I pulled my eyes away from his face and stared down at my lap, where my hands were resting. I was wearing a gorgeous red dress that matched the red lipstick on my lips. My hair was curled and clipped to the side with a diamond barrette, and I wore black heels with a diamond strap… all real diamonds, which Irene liked to point out while she got me dressed.

The car slowed, and my heart thudded rapidly against my chest; there were so many cars parked outside of the packhouse that Gavin had trouble getting through to get to his designated parking space.

Once we were parked and out of the car, Gavin was quick to walk up the steps of the packhouse, his persona complete business now. I took hold of Matt’s hand, and we walked behind Irene, who also walked with her head held high as if she owned the world.

By the time we followed the trail to the back of the packhouse, my entire mouth fell open. It was like a whole event happening right before my eyes… only I was the reason behind it.

My face was on signs with crosses along cach image. Some signs read: Down with the Luna.

And:

We don’t want Judy!

My heart cracked at the sight of it; it had to be the entire pack… maybe even more so. I swear I recognized some from my home pack, which broke my heart even more.

“Holy shit,” Irene whispered, her face pale as she stared around at the sight.

“We deserve better than to have a cheater as a Luna!” Olivia shouted over the megaphone. “It’s not fair that we get a downgrade when we have the most powerful Lycan Chairmen as our Alpha! We should be having an equally strong Luna!”

“What the hell is going on here?!” Gavin barked, his voice echoing across the packhouse yards and making everyone turn their bodies to face him. Their eyes grew wide, and some of them grew pale, but none of them backed down.

“Alpha Landry,” Olivia

her hand. “As membe. Called for his attention, still standing in front of everybody with a megaphone in

her hand. “As members of your pack, we disagree with who you have chosen to be our future Luna. We think Judy is a gold-digging whore who has never even considered being a Luna before, let alone trained for it… We deserve better than a wannabe like her.”

“What gives you the right to speak about my mate like that?” Gavin growled. “I could have you gutted for disrespecting her.”

“Not when I have the entire world on my side,” Olivia said, folding her arms across her chest.

She motioned for those who were holding up their phones, livestreaming the entire thing, and I felt my cheeks burning hot. Irene straightened her posture, lifted her head slightly, and I tried my best to do the same. Before we arrived here, she told me to copy her body language because we didn’t have enough time to prepare.

She was still unsure as to why I wanted to do this, but I knew I couldn’t let Gavin fight my battles himself, and if he knew that I already knew about this protest and didn’t say anything about it, it might prove them right that I’m not fit to stand by his side as a Luna.

I felt Matt squeeze my hand, and when I looked down at him, he gave me an encouraging smile and a head nod. I knew at that moment I had someone in my corner who believed in me, and I needed to believe in myself as well.

As I looked at Gavin, who was still in the middle of arguing with Olivia and trying to figure out what she

was talking about, and then I looked at Irene, who was still posing for the camera and not letting them see her break… I realized I had more than just Matt in my corner.

I had a family.

“Taylor, find out how those photos got leaked and figure out who sent in the article,” Gavin said into the phone. I hadn’t realized he was calling Taylor until this moment. “I want the articles taken down immediately, and whoever sent in those tips, I want them prosecuted at the Silver Crescent Prison. I want to speak with them myself.”

Without another word, he hung up the phone and turned to the rest of the pack.

“Some photos aren’t enough proof to prove that Judy cheated during the competition,” Gavin said, shaking his head. “And the other Lycans were well aware of my feelings towards Judy at the end. We had known each other long before the competition. She was one of my pack members prior to that and remains one now. She started work as my son’s tutor almost 3 years ago. She has always been very talented, and I knew that the moment I met her. The only reason I even bothered to show up to this year’s gamma competition was to support her. I didn’t vote for Judy; the others had voted for her, and then she won fair and square. Once the footage… the unedited copy of the footage, is reviewed, the entire world will see that Judy did not cheat, and her win was well deserved.”

This silenced literally everybody; it was so quiet that a pin could be heard dropping in the

grass.

“Alpha…are you admitting that you and Judy Montague had relations before the competition?” Olivia stammered, trying to save face.

“I’m admitting that I had strong feelings for Miss Montague before the competition. It was the reason why I chose not to vote for her; I tried everything in my power not to be biased because I knew how important this was to her. If the slandering continues, I’ll make sure every one of you is prosecuted.”

They were staring at him as if he had just told a ghost story. My heart lurched in my chest. As much as I loved him for what he was saying and adored that he stood up for me, I couldn’t let him fight this battle for me. If I ever wanted them to respect and accept me as their Luna… I needed to be a Luna. I needed to prove to them that I could be a good Luna if they gave me the chance.

I stepped forward, my hand pressing into Gavin’s shoulder blade, gaining his attention.

“Let me speak for myself,” I tell him, making him raise his brows.

“Are you sure?” He asked, keeping his tone low and for my ears alone.

I stared up at him and let out the breath I hadn’t known I was holding.

“Yes,” I replied. “I think it’s time that the pack heard from their Luna.”
