“Are you sure you want to do this?” Gavin asked me.

“Of course, she’s sure. She needs to show them who’s boss,” Irene said, “Just remember to keep your head held high and don’t let them see your weakness.” She added that last part for me.
I stared up at Gavin.
“I can do this,” I told him, “I need you to trust me.”
“I trust you, But I don’t trust them. I’m a bit blindsided that my entire pack is boycotting my mate, and the fact that you’re trending in the media. Did you know this was happening?”
“I might have had a feeling.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
‘Because I knew you’d be upset and I didn’t want you to have to choose between your pack and me…”
Gavin put a couple of his fingers beneath my chin and lifted my gaze to meet his; I could see the sincerity and love in his eyes, and it made my heart skip a beat.
“You are my mate… my family. I will always choose my family over duty. You and my children are my priority. Always. Don’t ever doubt me… I love you, and we are in this together.”
My heart swelled at his sincere words, and I found myself leaning a bit closer to him.
“This is cute and all, but everybody is watching you,” Irene whispered from beside me. “And remember what I told you about image?”
She was right.
I needed to act like I owned the world and that I belonged there more than any of them.
I felt a strange surge rushing through me, and I felt my wolf stirring inside of me. I barely even felt myself moving forward, but I was getting closer to the front so that I could take the megaphone away from Olivia. Everybody watched me; their lips sealed shut and their eyes wide.
The energy that surged through me seemed to be getting more powerful, and a few had sucked in a sharp breath as I passed by. I didn’t look at anybody as I walked towards the front; my eyes were fixed on Olivia, who was watching me warily.
“Don’t come any closer,” Olivia said, “I don’t trust you. Nobody here should trust you. You’re a cheater and a liar!”
“You are speaking a lot of nonsense,” I told her. “And causing a stir out of nothing. There is no evidence that I cheated, and once that is found out, you’ll look foolish.”
“But there is proof! There are photos and text messages. That’s right… We had someone hack your phones,

“I’m not perfect,” I went on. “I don’t know everything, and I won’t pretend I do. But I will learn. I will listen. And I will protect this pack with everything I have. Some of you know me… I grew up with you, and you know that I’m not deceitful and I never have been.”
Mouths dropped, and phones were capturing pictures and videos; all I could see were flashes and dropped jaws.
“Holy shit… what the hell are you?” Olivia asked as she stepped back, her eyes wide as she stared at me. Without waiting for a reply, she quickly turned to the shocked crowd. “And this is another reason why Judy shouldn’t be our Luna… because look at her! She’s a freak. We deserve someone more deserving like Lila Blackwell!!!!”
Wait… what??
Nan rushed towards me before I could even grasp what was even said; in her hands, she held a long, dark coat that I knew belonged to Gavin. Confusion swept over me, and I turned to look at Gavin, but he was no longer standing where he was, and neither were Irene and Matt.
Nan draped the coat around my shoulders and turned me away from the onlooking crowd.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“You are glowing,” she whispered.
“Probably my pregnancy.Oh my god,” I said, “Did everybody see?”
“Uh, yeah… just about,” she said, “Gavin’s already trying to get every video of that pulled, and he’s locking down the pack so nobody can go off and spread misinformation. He put me in charge of getting you out of here.”
“Getting me out of here? He wants me to run?”
“He just wants you to stay low for a few minutes.”
Irene was already waiting for us further inside the packhouse, pacing back and forth.
“Okay… this might be bad,” she said.
“What?What’s going on?”
“You are trending. There are already articles about you glowing. Now they think you are some magical being… or alien. They are wondering even more now if you are fit to be a luna.”
My heart cracked at her words.
This wasn’t fair. Why was this suddenly happening to me?
“Judy!” I heard my name from a close distance, and when I turned, I saw Selene rushing towards me with Esme right behind her. “I came as soon as I saw the headlines,” she said, grabbing onto my arms. “I don’t believe for a second that you cheated.”
