Chapter 628 Finding A Siren
Judy’s POV

“I’m just saying, I think you should stay at the packhouse while I deal with Chuck. It would be safer for
you here.” Gavin said, his muscles on full display, making my eyes shamefully wander.
It was the next morning, and neither of us slept well. I had a strange urgency inside of me that kept me awake all night. Gavin was in the middle of getting dressed when he told me he didn’t think I should go.
Jeremy had told us where Chuck was posted this morning, and he was about to reach that post in about an hour. The rest of the warriors were most likely almost done getting dressed by now and meeting in the packhouse dining hall for breakfast.
I had an urgency to go… I needed to get what we came here for and return to our territory. My wolf felt uneasy being outside of her territory. Strange how she was already thinking of it as hers.
“You’re going to need me there. I won’t let you go without me, Gavin.”
“We don’t know how he’s going to react when we try to take him or even talk to him for that matter,” Gavin warned. “If he tried to hurt you, I can’t guarantee that I won’t kill him.”
I smiled at that as I stepped closer to him.
“If he went anywhere near me, there’s no guarantee that I won’t kill him first,” I told him. “I’m not helpless, Gavin. I came here because something inside of me is telling me I need to be here. It’s willing me to take action, and I can’t ignore it. I need you to be on my team.”
“You know I’m always on your team-”
“Then prove it,” I said, cutting him off. “Let me come with you to get Chuck.”
He stared at me for a moment, the corner of his lips twitching.
“I know what you’re doing,” he said, amusement and adoration somehow entwining through his eyes.
I smiled.
“Is it working?”
He let out a laugh; my favorite sound. My heart skipped a beat as he stepped closer to me.
“Yes, it’s working,” he finally said, his voice low.
I lifted my head to meet his eyes as he stepped even closer, leaving little to no space between us. He reached up and touched a strand of hair behind my face, letting his fingers brush across my cheekbones and making me tremble.
“Good,” I said, as I brushed my lips across his jaw. “I guess it’s good that you know who you’re marrying,” I
teased.

closed the space between our lips. His kiss took my breath away, and it was over before it truly began, leaving me needy. “But if we are going to do this, we need to leave now. We can’t waste any more time.”
“I’ll get dressed quickly,” I promised as I rushed to get clothes. Within 5 minutes, I was dressed and ready to go. Then we met with the gammas in the dining hall.
It was early in the morning, so naturally, everyone was tired. But Erik looked like he hadn’t slept in days. His eyes had dark circles beneath them, and he looked to have aged 50 years.
Any other day, I would have thought he needed some space and let him rest. But today, I needed him to be focused if we wanted this plan to work. We couldn’t risk any major screwups. I had to remember that I had all the training of a gamma and I needed to speak to him on that level.
“Are you going to be okay today?” I asked as I sat beside Erik at the table.
“Of course,” he said without hesitation; he didn’t bother looking at me, he was too focused on putting sugar in his black coffee.
Ugh. I missed being able to drink caffeinated coffee. What I wouldn’t give for a cup right now…
I shook the thought out of my head as I looked up at Erik. He still wasn’t looking at me; he seemed too lost in thought.
“Erik,” I said, trying to gain his attention. When he didn’t reply, I said his name again, only much firmer this time, and it made a couple of others look our way as well.
Gavin sat beside me with a tray of food, some of which were my favorites, and placed it in front of me.
Erik finally looked up at me when I said his name the second time.
“Hmm?”
I narrowed my eyes at him.
“We need you to be focused and alert. We don’t know what kind of trouble we are going to have this morning, and having your mind not fully in this would be dangerous for you and your teammates. Can we count on you, or do you need to tag out?”
Erik kept his gaze locked on mine, and then I could see his resolve cracking.
“I’m worried that this won’t work,” he admitted. “That we’ll get Chuck and bring him back to the Silver Crescent pack… and then we won’t be able to break the curse.”
“I know you’re scared, Erik. But you must know that I’m not going to stop until Irene is okay,” I told him. “We aren’t going to stop trying, and you will someday have your mate.”
He was quiet for a moment, but I knew there was something more he wanted to say.
“What if she doesn’t want me even after the curse is broken?” He asked, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I’ve been giving her space because I know I freaked her out, and she wants nothing to do with me. But what if she still wants nothing to do with me even after she’s free from Chuck’s curse…”
Now I understood the real problem he was having; he was afraid that Irene would still reject him.

“That’s a bridge we cross when we get there, but it’s important that we break this curse before we think about anything else. The curse is hurting her.” I told him. “I need you to be focused, Erik. Can you do
that?”
“Yes,” he said with a nod. “I can be focused.”
Gavin then tugged my chair closer to his and motioned with his head towards the tray of food he got.
“Eat,” he ordered.
I smiled.
“Yes, Sir.”
Once we were done with breakfast, we met with Alpha Jeremy one last time. Some of the gammas had already brought our things back to the plane because we weren’t planning to stay here much longer.
Alpha Jeremy gave us the coordinates of where Chuck was going to be, and we didn’t waste any time getting there. The warriors patrolling the area were already alerted about Gavin’s sudden visit, so they didn’t interfere as we made our way towards Chuck’s post.
Chuck’s eyes narrowed when he spotted us.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, his brows pinched together.
