Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 512

Maybe her mother was still out there somewhere. As long as there was even the slightest chance, she wasn’t going to give up.

Madeline took a steadying breath and walked back into the living room. Julian was waiting for her, standing quietly by the doorway. The moment she stepped in, every pair of eyes landed on her. She could feel their curiosity and suspicion, thick in the air.

Claire was the one who looked the calmest, but Madeline knew better. Underneath that composed mask, Claire had to be nervous. She didn’t know what Madeline and Maxwell had talked about and, honestly, Madeline could see her wheels turning. Claire wasn’t going to relax for a second.

“Let’s go,” Madeline said softly, glancing at Julian.

He reached out, gently took her hand, and nodded. “Yeah, let’s.”

As they started walking out, Claire called out to Maxwell, who was following behind them. “Maxwell, you’re just going to let this imposter leave without making her apologize to me?”

Madeline paused and looked back. She could see right through Claire’s game. If she apologized now, it’d be like admitting that Claire was the real Madeline.

Julian’s eyes narrowed, his voice colder than ice. “Are you really going to do this?”

Claire bit her lip. She’d spent years in the Grayson family and she knew exactly what Julian’s temper could be like. His jaw was tight, his displeasure obvious. Her heart beat faster, but she pressed on. “She pretended to be me. I think I deserve an apology.”

Maxwell stepped in before things could escalate. “That’s enough. Let them go. There’s no need to drag this out any further.”
