Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 706

“Let me guess, Brenda told you again, right? What did you bribe her with this time? She spills everything to you.”

“Come on, aren’t we supposed to be partners now? Is this how partners treat each other, hiding stuff like this?”

Madeline connected her phone to the Bluetooth, started the car, and let out a helpless laugh. “Since when do partners track each other’s every move?”

“Alright, enough joking. It’s my grandma’s birthday tomorrow night. You’ve got to come.”

Madeline glanced over at the clock. “Tomorrow?”

“Do you have something going on?”

She thought for a second. “No, nothing planned. Just give me an invite or I might not be able to get in.”

“Don’t worry, just show your face. That’s all you need.”

“Okay.” Madeline hung up and headed home.

In his study, Christian still hadn’t pulled himself together. He stared at Brian’s photo, his eyes brimming with tears he refused to let fall.

“Brian, don’t worry. I’ll find out who did this to you. I swear, I won’t let them get away with it.”

“Dad?” Lucy’s voice was soft as she stepped into the room.

Christian wiped his eyes, set the picture frame back on the shelf, and turned to face her. “What brings you here?”

“Dad, are you really okay?”

“I’m fine. Is there something you wanted?”

Lucy hesitated a moment. “Now that Madeline’s back, I wanted to talk to you about her and Julian.”

“You want me to stop getting in their way, right?”

Lucy nodded. “The kids need both of their parents, Dad. For their sake, could you just let it go? This whole year, just because you didn’t want Julian to see Madeline, you let her take the kids. You even pushed Julian to forget about her. You got what you wanted, but have you noticed? Julian isn’t happy. Madeline was right. When the family is at peace, everything else works out. Please, just let them have that.”

Christian looked over at Lucy and didn’t say anything, lost in his own thoughts.

Lucy kept going. “And about that woman you had stuck to Julian, Alianna? I’m just going to say it. I don’t want her anywhere near him. She doesn’t have the right background, and her reputation isn’t good. She’s not someone Julian should be with.”

“She’s Ray’s daughter.”

“But she’s not his biological daughter. He’s just a father figure to her.”

“Ray never had kids of his own. She’s the closest thing he has to a daughter.”

“No, Dad, that’s not it and you know it. You’re just trying to get at Ray’s wife, Shelly, and her daughter. You want to make things tough for them, so you’re helping Alianna.”
