Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 716

The officer finished looking through the documents and handed them back to Madeline, his whole demeanor shifting. “All right, we’ve got it all sorted.”

“Then please take her away, officer,” Madeline said, not bothering to hide her impatience.

He nodded, then grabbed Alianna firmly by the shoulder and slapped a pair of handcuffs on her wrists. “You’ll need to come down to the station with us.”

“Wait, what? Why?” Alianna’s voice shook as the color drained from her face.

“Ms. Monroe owns this house,” the officer explained, steady and official. “She’s reporting you for trespassing and theft. Please cooperate and come with us for the investigation.”

Alianna stared at the property deed in Madeline’s hand, looking like she might explode. “No way. This isn’t real. I didn’t break in, I didn’t steal anything! She’s making this up!”

Madeline stepped closer and lifted the diamond necklace from around Alianna’s neck, her gaze sharp and cold. “So just because it’s hanging on your neck, it’s yours now?”

Alianna froze, suddenly remembering the necklace she’d swiped from the drawer, completely forgetting she was wearing it in her desperate rush to show off.

“I...”

She opened her mouth, but there was nothing she could say. The evidence was right there for everyone to see.

Madeline twirled the necklace between her fingers. “This was locked in my dresser. Birthday present from my mom, cost her ten million dollars. Officer, what kind of sentence do people get when they steal something like this?”

“That would be up to the court, but for a theft this big, the sentence is usually somewhere between three and ten years,” he replied without missing a beat.

Madeline smiled, satisfied. “Good. That works for me.”

Alianna looked like she might faint. Her knees buckled and she dropped to the floor, shaking. “I didn’t steal it. I swear! I just wanted to try it on. It was beautiful, that’s all, I just wanted to see what it looked like... it’s not stealing!”

“Not stealing?” Madeline almost laughed. “Did I say you could come into my room? Did I say you could touch my drawers? Did I say you could wear my necklace?”
