Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 717

If he hadn’t lost his mind, how else could he explain doing something so out of line?

Now, remembering what Madeline said at the banquet, he couldn’t help but start believing her.

“We were married before?”

Miles nodded. Since Julian asked, there was no way to dodge it. “Yes. Ms. Monroe is your ex-wife.”

Julian’s eyes narrowed, his voice cold. “Why hasn’t anyone ever told me?”

A year ago, he’d lost a chunk of his memory. He had nothing about this woman locked in his mind. Didn’t even know he used to have an ex-wife. No one had ever brought it up, not even once.

His face stayed calm, but tension started building in his jaw.

He could see it now. So much had been hidden from him.

Miles paused, inwardly cursing Christian for setting this up. Christian made sure the topic was off-limits, even swapped out all the staff so no one could slip up.

After a moment, Miles exhaled and managed to come up with a weak excuse. “You never asked, so we didn’t mention it.”

Julian’s gaze turned somber.

There was no way he could accept that excuse.

Of course he hadn’t asked. How could he? She didn’t even exist in his memories. But for him to give someone everything he had… this woman must have meant the world to him.

Someone so important, and not even a single word from anyone, not even about their two kids. Silence from everyone.

This wasn’t about not asking. This was intentional. Deliberate.

His mind spun. What had happened before? Why did everyone leave her out of his story? Had he really loved her that much? He must have. No other reason he would have given her everything. But if that was true, why wasn’t she there with him now? Why had she left with their kids?

So many questions, but not a single answer.

“Well? Say something. Are you mute now?” Madeline blinked fast, swallowing down the tears burning at the corners of her eyes.

The resentment had been rumbling since the banquet, threatening to explode the minute she saw Alianna walking out of the bedroom in her own pajamas, hair still damp.

Her mood had gone through a hundred twists all night. Anger, denial, confusion, sadness. She’d tried to keep it together, biting it back again and again, until she couldn’t hold it anymore. Honestly, it was impressive she lasted this long.

“No. I don’t.”

Julian looked down at her, almost surprised by his own instinct—wanting to say something, anything, to soothe her.
