Neither of them had ever been among Michael’s favorites.
Still, Christopher managed to force his own way forward. Nicholas would never forget the day Christopher turned eighteen. He pushed Felix’s wheelchair into the middle of the room, faced the whole family, and flat-out refused the offer to join Watson Corporation.
He told them he didn’t need their fake family bonds. He’d destroy this rotten family with his own hands.
Christopher was unbelievably arrogant. Maybe, in his mind, no one else was even worth fighting for power. He saw himself as the only real heir to the Watson family and wanted nothing to do with their backstabbing games.
And honestly, he pulled it off. He turned Watson Corporation into the top conglomerate in the country with his outcast brother.
But almost everyone in the Watson family except Felix hated him, feared him, and, deep down, were jealous.
Maybe Nicholas was one of them.
There was a time when Nicholas looked up to Christopher, even wanted to be as bold as him. If he couldn’t make everyone in the Watson family love him, then at least he could make them all shut up and listen.
But in the end, Nicholas couldn’t do it. He wasn’t crazy enough to ignore what everyone thought. He couldn’t just toss aside his lover, his daughter, or his friends.
“Really?” Britney’s laugh slipped out before she could stop herself.
“Christopher grew up spoiled. Did he ever have to wonder who his mother was? Did he spend his whole life trying not to upset Michael, like you did?”
“Felix is disabled, but even if he does nothing, he’ll always have a place in this family. What about me?”
She saw something shift in Nicholas’s eyes and grabbed his arm.
“Nicholas, do you remember? Back when the family turned their backs on you, Dad was ready to give up and leave you behind…”
