After she finished her skincare routine, Dorothea walked back into the bedroom and found Latham completely absorbed in his tablet. Normally, he wasn’t the type to waste time playing on his phone. Most nights, he’d just read financial news or something equally boring.
She glanced at his screen and noticed a flood of memes and comments. Curiosity got the better of her. “What are you looking at?”
“Just comments from people online. Check this one out, I’ll read it to you.”
The first comment said, “First time I’ve ever shipped a couple and they turned out to be real. I must have a sixth sense or something.”
The next one made Dorothea cringe. “She fusses, he soothes. She gets moody, he just laughs. And Latham is a literal CEO! Where do you even find a husband like that?”
Then there was, “Has anyone noticed Latham works out for two hours every morning? The man’s got insane stamina. Dorothea, you hit the jackpot.”
Latham read each comment slowly, word for word. Dorothea just wanted to hide under the covers.
“Babe, do you think I have amazing stamina?” he asked, completely straight-faced.
She couldn’t believe he was actually reading those ridiculous posts. Honestly, was there anyone more self-obsessed than this man? She rolled her eyes, flopped onto the bed, and ignored his question. All she said was, “Go to sleep.”
Latham put his tablet down and scooted closer, gently placing his hand on her still-flat belly. “Honey, I bought a stethoscope.”
Dorothea was already half-asleep and didn’t hear him at all.
With no answer, he just smiled to himself. “Goodnight, babe. Goodnight, little one.”
...
Outside the villa, Walton had been lurking for a while, watching and waiting. The moment he saw Latham drive off in his flashy sports car, his eyes lit up.
“Look at her. Marries rich and forgets all about her family,” he muttered, spitting on the ground. He stomped up to the door, grumbling under his breath, and knocked.
A staff member from the show opened the door.
“Who are you here for?” they asked.
“Oh, you’re filming that show, right? I’m her uncle. I’m here to see Dorothea.”
