When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 356

After everything that happened, Dorothea slept nearly until noon. When she finally woke up, she saw a bunch of missed calls from Carmen, so she called her back right away.

“Carmen? Did you need something?”

“Dorothea, are you home? I want to drop off your invitation. I’m getting married at the end of this month.”

Dorothea smiled, stretching beneath her sheets. “I’m here, of course. Nowhere else to be these days. Come over— I have your wedding gift ready anyway, you can take it with you.”

She’d actually had a friend bid on a necklace at an auction ages ago, just for Carmen. It was all prepared, waiting for this moment.

“Wait, you really got me a gift? Dorothea, I love you so much! I’m coming over right now!”

When Carmen arrived, she saw the necklace and practically burst into tears.

“Oh my god, are you real? This is gorgeous, you spoiling me or what?”

Dorothea grinned. “Well, you told me your wedding dress was blue, so I bid on this necklace because it matched. Figured you could wear it when you walk down the aisle.”

“It’s not some crazy expensive gem— but it’s a discontinued design from an Italian jeweler. I thought that made it special. So? What do you think?”

“I love it! Seriously, I love it to death! Pearson hasn’t even gotten me anything. He’s so dense.”

Dorothea shot her a playful look. “Hey, Pearson’s not cheap. Didn’t Latham say he bought you a whole house as a wedding present?”

“A house is a wedding present. This necklace is a romantic wedding gift. They’re not the same. And besides, all we do is live together. It’s not what you think.”

Dorothea just blinked at that, speechless.

Carmen laughed, sticking out her tongue. “Whatever, once I’m married, I’ll behave. Promise.”

“Oh and—my grandpa said Albert’s heading to the European branch for business. Who knows when he’ll be back.”

“So he’s leaving the country.”

Dorothea froze for just a second, then let it pass. “I figured.”

Carmen’s voice softened, “If he didn’t appreciate you, that’s on him. His loss.”

Dorothea shrugged it off. “Let’s not talk about that stuff anymore. Seriously, did you see Latham today? He was so savage to that reporter. I’m still in awe.”

Dorothea had missed all the drama. She raised an eyebrow. “What happened now?”

“You don’t know? Someone posted a photo of you and Albert and started more rumors. Latham held a press conference, eight in the morning, and just… roasted the reporter. Called him an idiot to his face, no filter whatsoever.”
