Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 227

I closed the door, keeping myself apart from Neil and Bonnie.

I looked down at the contract in my hand and took a deep breath. A weight was finally lifted from my heart.

After returning to Rosemont, Stella gave me a call.

"Rena, Ali told me something really bizarre. I've also mentioned it to Mitch." Her voice was filled with confusion.

"Shoot."

I was visiting my mom in the hospital. I massaged her hand while answering Stella.

Alicia bumped into Louis Aldridge in the Dreamscape District, and at the time, Louis was having dinner with a company's head. This company was one of Whitmore Co.'s strongest competitors. They had a huge rivalry over resources a few years back.

Wasn't Louis Neil's friend? Why was he dining with Whitmore Co.'s competitor?

It was indeed weird, but since Mitch knew about it, he'd definitely tell Neil.

"Rena, my guess might sound like a conspiracy theory…" Stella lowered her voice, "Who leaked that news about Neil's father? I asked Halley. The anonymous person seemed to know the Whitmore family really well. Could it be Louis?"

This guess gave me goosebumps, "No way, right? Louis has no reason to do that!"

"Exactly! Isn't he just the son of a driver from the Whitmore family? The Whitmores have helped him and his dad a lot. Why would he do that?" Stella was also puzzled.

After chatting with Stella for a while, I hung up, but my mind was racing. Did Neil already know about this?

If his dad really had a love child... I couldn't even imagine.

Knowing Neil, if he indeed had a half-sibling, he'd probably flip the world upside down to find them.

Although I was curious about it, I didn't pay much attention to it. After returning to Rosemont, besides working, I met with Russel quite often. We both tacitly avoided talking about the night before I left for the trip.

The man who tried to hurt my mom was caught, but he wouldn't admit to being instigated. We could only let him be detained at the police station for now.

Meanwhile, I learned some bad news from the hospital. My mom could become a vegetable.

This news pushed my dad and me into deep sorrow. I felt like it was all my fault. I shouldn't have sought Neil's help, causing my mom to be agitated.

Then the doorbell rang. My dad went to open the door. His angry voice came from the entrance, "What are you doing here?! Get out!"

I got up and went over, only to see Neil.

Despite my dad's harsh words, Neil kept his cool. I was afraid my dad would attack Neil again, so I pushed Neil into the yard and let my dad stay in the living room.

"I don't want to get back with you or accept your compensation. My mom might become a vegetable. What more do you want? I divorced you and hurt your pride, but I've paid a high enough price!" I said, emotionally charged.

I was in a bad mood. After seeing Neil, I lost some control.

Neil looked like he hadn't rested in days. He had dark circles under his eyes and an overall gloomy look. Normally I wouldn't lash out at him in this state, but the bad news from the hospital today really hit me hard.

He looked at my angry face but remained calm and said, "I'm sorry. I just wanted to check on you."

"Neil, I don't need you! Can't you understand that? My family's already in chaos. Do you want to make my dad sick as well?" I choked up. Thinking about my mom possibly never waking up again made me feel heartbroken.

Initially, I was relieved after securing a collaboration with Evershine Enterprises, but I didn't expect fate to be so cruel to me.
