They said it was a full-blown quarrel, but really it was just Bonnie throwing a tantrum.
I checked Twitter and found out that Bonnie attended a party as Neil's girlfriend a couple of days ago, and Neil suddenly denied it on Twitter today.
This was pretty much a roundabout way of saying that they had broken up.
Pissed off, Bonnie vented on Twitter, spilling all sorts of tea about her and Neil, even bringing up stuff about Karina Aaron. The internet was now all up in arms against Neil, calling him a heartbreaker and a criminal.
The worst part was that I got dragged into this mess. I was Neil's ex-wife, and hardly anyone knew that I didn't know Karina when we got married. Everyone just assumed that I was the other woman.
The general consensus was that Neil and I were responsible for Karina's death.
It was heartbreaking. Just when I thought I could finally have some peace, I was thrown back into the whirlwind of public opinion.
Russel called just then. He saw the news about Neil and Bonnie's breakup and called to check if I was okay.
"I'm fine. I'm just worried about my dad. He's been really stressed lately." I replied, rubbing my temples in frustration.
"You had nothing to do with Karina's death. I'll clear your name." Russel tried to console me.
I didn't quite understand how he could help until I saw his statement that night. Karina was his admirer to begin with, and he was Neil's best friend, so he knew what was what.
And his words carry weight.
But wouldn't his family blame Russel if he went public to help me?
I thought it was all over when Neil didn't seem to care about what people said about him.
But then, a day later, he posted something that took me by surprise.
"Ms. Finch, Bonnie is here to see you!" My assistant reported.
I put down my phone with my emotions still in turmoil. My first thought was that Neil hadn't kept his promise when I heard Bonnie was looking for me.
"I see." I replied coldly, "Let her in."
"Okay." My assistant left, and I waited for Bonnie in my office.
After a few minutes, Bonnie didn't show up. Then my assistant came back, "She left."
I frowned. What was going on?
But it was better if she didn't come. It saved me some trouble.
In the evening, Stella and the others invited me out to dinner. I finished work and went to meet them. The main topic of the night was still Neil and Bonnie. Stella.
"Karina really was manipulative, Rena. If she were still alive, she'd be much harder to deal with than Bonnie!" Stella exclaimed.
I just smiled as I ate my meal.
Karina was indeed quite something. Neil posted her diary entries from when she was alive. They clearly showed that she had severe depression and suicidal thoughts.
According to the dates in the diary, she hadn't met Neil yet at that time.
What was important was that the diary also mentioned that Neil and Karina decided to break up, and Neil gave Karina a large sum of money as compensation. After accepting the money, Karina fell into despair again and attempted suicide.
