Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 551

Stella Wallace let out a long, weary sigh, deciding not to dwell on the matter any longer.

Handling Mitch Hebert was already a headache for her, and she hardly had the time or energy to fuss over my issues. However, she did bring up one thing.

"Did you know about Ali's ex, Sean? Do you have any idea what his mom's family is up to in the States? No, I mean his maternal side," Stella said, her voice tinged with a hint of mystery.

"What about them?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. My knowledge about Sean was limited, let alone his mother's family overseas.

I'd heard rumors, though, that Sean and his brother were half-siblings, sharing the same father but different mothers. In other words, Sean's dad had remarried to his mom.

"They've got a finger in both pies, if you catch my drift..." Stella didn't elaborate, but her words hinted at some shady dealings.

It seemed Sean's maternal family had some underworld connections in the States.

I began to understand what Alicia Rider meant when she said she and Sean were from different worlds. If these family ties were true, it'd explain a lot of unavoidable complications.

The States were a whole different ball game compared to our quiet, law-abiding life here. Alicia had always been a bit of a greenhouse flower, living a sheltered life. The hardest she'd ever worked was probably pulling all-nighters at the office. Merging her life with Sean's would be a tough cookie to crack.

I, too, would have reservations.

"Are they completely done now? How did you come to know about this?" I inquired.

"Fate has a funny way of playing tricks," Stella explained. "Ali wanted to cut ties with Sean, but due to work, she ended up back in the States. Ran into some bikers there. Luckily, she wasn't hurt, but she lost her bag. It had some important work documents in it, and then... Sean helped her get it back."

Sometimes, I wonder if Cupid's been hitting the bottle.

Just when Alicia was starting to get over Sean, requiring time to heal, this incident happened. It was as if they were meant to be tangled up again. And since the States were Sean's turf, Alicia seeking his help was akin to owing him a favor.

This whole situation was giving me a headache. Of course, I wished for Alicia to find her happiness, but considering Sean's family background and their on-again, off-again relationship, it seemed he might not be the one for her.

It felt like my own situation with Neil Whitmore – doomed from the start.

Stella was about to dive deeper into the gossip when Mitch's call came through. To show me how annoying the guy was, she put him on speaker.

"Hey, tiger mom, where are you? I need to go to the bathroom!" Despite having a broken leg, Mitch was bold enough to shout over the phone.

"Dare call me tiger mom again?" Stella's temper flared instantly.

"What? You are a tiger mom! Hurry up, or I'll wet the bed!" Mitch's shamelessness left me speechless.

"Mitch, have you lost it? I might still care about my reputation, but do you? Bet you won't if I break your other leg," Stella threatened through gritted teeth.

There was a brief silence on Mitch's end before he let out a sly chuckle, "Fine by me. You'll just have to take care of me longer."

Stella scoffed, "Dream on! You climbed a fence, broke your own leg, and now you want me to babysit you? Not happening!"

Unfazed, Mitch retorted, "Then leave me be. You were the one who rushed me to the hospital. If I don't cooperate with the treatment and cause trouble for others, the hospital's going to contact you. If you've got the patience, deal with them one by one. My parents are too fed up with my divorce drama to care about me anymore!"
