Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 591

Hiram's eyes, previously dimmed by worry, suddenly sparkled with life as he vigorously nodded. "Yes, I can do it, Dad!" he said, planting a kiss on Neil's cheek. His spirits visibly lifted as he almost pranced into the hospital ward.

As the door closed behind him, a wave of melancholy washed over me. It was anyone's guess what challenges Hiram would face alone in that ward over the next month, with only the nurses, his guardian angels in scrubs, for company. I could only hope for the best.

"That kid is seriously brave and smart. How come I never noticed how likable he is before?" Cooper remarked, having come especially to see Hiram off before his surgery and to discuss something regarding Mitch as well. After all, Cooper and Mitch were like brothers in arms, always ready to back each other up no matter the trouble.

"Mhm," was all Neil offered in response, his mind elsewhere.

Mitch, seizing the moment, began to lament in front of me, "I miss my three little angels so much. Wonder where they are, how they're doing, if anyone's giving them a hard time..."

To the uninitiated, it might sound like Mitch's kids were abducted. In reality, they were with his ex-wife following their divorce.

Neil suddenly interjected, his patience thinning. "Since your leg's pretty much healed, you should head over to Eldoria soon. I don't quite trust the folks over there to handle things without you keeping an eye on them."

"Huh?" Mitch, lost in his woes, struggled to catch Neil's drift.

"What do you mean, 'huh'? You think your ex-wife's just sitting around waiting for you? For all you know, she's moved on with someone else and is avoiding you," Neil deadpanned, slicing through Mitch's denial.

Mitch blanched. "Neil, you can't just project your own issues with your ex onto mine! My kids calling some other dude 'dad'? Hell no, I can't accept that!"

Neil's expression turned steely at Mitch's retort, while I pretended to hear none of their bickering.

Cooper quickly intervened, pulling Mitch aside to calm him down.

With these three complicated men behind me, I returned to my father's side, preparing for my trip abroad to submit his medical records and surgery application. With my mom tied up with business, I had to arrange for a caregiver to look after him during my absence.

My father, whether out of concern or nerves, remained silent until my departure, when he finally spoke up, "Be careful on your way."
