I couldn't let Chelsea actually lose her job over me, so I made my way back to the entrance, knowing Neil would keep his word.
"Chelsea, could you please pass on a message for me? I'd like to have a word with him. If he's truly fallen for Kitty and wants nothing more to do with me, then I need him to tell me straight. I won't linger," I said, gripping Chelsea's arm a bit too eagerly.
Chelsea sighed, nodding in agreement, "Alright, I'll let him know."
With that, I stepped back, watching the door close before me, feeling utterly powerless.
Upon returning to Russel's place, he met me with a curious gaze, "Kicked out again, huh?"
"Seems like you're enjoying this a bit too much," I retorted, sinking into the couch before asking, "Russel, can I borrow your phone? I need to make a call."
Neil had blocked my number, making it impossible for me to reach him directly.
Russel didn't object, handing over his phone but not without remarking, "He probably knows you're here with me. Doubt he'll pick up."
Deep down, I knew it was a long shot, but I had to try.
I dialed Neil's familiar number, my heart hanging on each ring, hoping against hope he'd answer and clear the air between us. But, just as Russel predicted, the call was cut short.
"I try again, and you might get blocked too," Russel commented after seeing my failed attempt.
I hesitated before finally giving up on making another call.
There was nothing left to do but wait for Chelsea to relay my message, to see if Neil was willing to have that crucial conversation.
Waiting was torture. I spent most of the day restless. Russel, noticing my anxiety, chose to stay silent, offering his presence as comfort instead.
"I'm giving myself three days. If he doesn't see me or give me a clear answer by then, I'll take it as his final word. I'll head back to Rosemont and never bother him again," I declared to Russel, who simply nodded, still choosing silence over words.
I was seeking some form of reassurance, hoping Russel would echo my resolve, but his silence was unexpected, making him seem more like a statue than a friend.
I shared my decision in our group chat, sparking immediate outrage from Stella Wallace and the others. They were shocked Neil had turned me away.
Stella: "Holy cow, wasn't he the one wanting to get back together? And after everything he did to save you, he's now tangled up with Kitty?"
Barbara Sands: "Right? I thought you two would patch things up. This is just crazy."
Alicia Rider: "Sean and I managed to overcome everything, what's going on with you?"
