"Fancy seeing you here, Caiden. I thought you're going to ditch the ball just like what you almost did last year?" Lorcan, the alpha of Silver Storm pack, greeted me with a teasing smile.
"I still don't understand why do I need to waste my time just to attend this bullshit event," I mutter, sinking down into an empty chair at the circular table next to Jaxon, the alpha of the Crescent Shadow pack. I loosened my necktie and started looking around. There's a lot of vampires who keeps on glancing at our table. My brows furrowed. What's their problem? Are they looking for a fight or something?
"Where's your luna?" Hector asked with a grin.
"Shut up."
I already forbid Aria to go to the ball with me, so there shouldn't be a problem aside from the fact that I am the only alpha in our table who doesn't have a luna with me. Alaric, the alpha of Black Winter pack, leans closer to his mate, possessively wrapping his arms around her tiny waist.
I gave them a blank stare. "Don't worry, I'm not that desperate to take someone's mate."
I'm already contented with my life. I can't see myself being obsessed and possessive with a woman who I barely know. The only reason why I want to find her is because the pack needs a luna.
"I heard that the younger sister of King Reehan is coming today," Hector's mate spoke. What's her name again? Siha? I don't know.
"It's a good thing that you mentioned it, Seiah. I've been curious about her appearance-oh don't worry babe, you're still the prettiest for me," Lorcan turned to her mate who gave him a scary glare.
"I think she's very popular in the vampire world," Jaxon stated.
I let out a sly smirk as I remember what Derrick told me when I went to his office last time. "What's her name?" I asked.
"Yvania Natalia Huxley. She's an illegitimate daughter. Three years after the queen's death, the former king went to a party and got drunk. His friend introduced his female cousin and the former king got mesmerized with the woman's beauty. According to the maids, the two of them went to a private room together. The woman got pregnant but she passed away after she gave birth, leaving the baby behind. The king couldn't disregard the child because of her royal blood so he decided to keep her in the castle. It was a very popular issue before," Leon answered.
Leon is the oldest alpha among us, so I was no longer surprised about his knowledge when it comes to the controversies in the past. He's already in his 50s and he haven't resigned yet. His son died because of the war which involves their pack, the Night Moon pack. He started living in silence after that incident together with his Luna, Amaris. The last time I saw him was probably 8 months ago when we went to their pack territory and offered an alliance to strengthen our power and connection with them.
"Yvania Natalia Huxley," I mumbled. Judging by her name, she must be a hard-headed vampire despite of being an illegitimate child. I wonder if she's also a spoiled-brat and an arrogant person just like her older brother?
"I admit, this ballroom is
fascinating," Alaric stated.
I roamed my eyes around. There's a huge chandelier in the middle and all the torches on each pillar was lit in a blue fire. The whole surrounding was decorated in black, white, and red with a slight touch of gold. The crescent moon and the shining stars in the sky could be seen through the crystalized roof. Everything seems to be okay except for the vampires.
"Not bad," I commented. We're currently in Iterra Ideron. It's their turn to host the ball so they're also the one who's responsible for the venue.
Hector gritted his teeth. "I'm starting to get pissed. Where is that fucking king and who is he to make us wait?"
Jaxon chuckled while stroking the hair of his mate. "Patience, Hector. Patience."
