The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 135

Cordelia and Shelley chatted up a storm until the wee hours.

Downstairs, Ronan was waiting. At 8:50, a message popped up from his assistant. A Word document.

His assistant was damn efficient. He had managed to track down Castiel's old subordinates and his attending physician to get the lowdown on what happened.

After Castiel fell off the building, he was rushed to Hope Hospital. He had busted his spine, and even with treatment, he would have been paralyzed from the neck down. He confided to the doc that he didn’t want to be a burden to his family.

When Shelley heard about a young guy in need of a cornea transplant while discussing Castiel's condition with the doc, she felt a pang of regret. She casually brought it up to Castiel in their conversation.

Castiel told Cordelia and Shelley that if he kicked the bucket, they should give his corneas to the young man, and they shouldn't let the young man feel guilty about it - make it an anonymous donation.

Both Shelley and Cordelia decided to take care of Castiel and not dwell on this.

A week later, Castiel yanked out his own oxygen tube. But after he passed away, his records mysteriously vanished from the hospital.

At that time, there was a guy named Nikolas in the hospital. He was circling the drain. Nikolas had a daughter, Deanna.

Nikolas actually died a day after Castiel. That day, two things happened at Hope Hospital. Nikolas died, and Ronan had surgery.

The dean of the hospital happened to be Deanna’s uncle.

In reality, Nikolas and Castiel didn’t die on the same day. Castiel died a day earlier, but someone had fudged the records, making it seem like Nikolas died a day earlier.

As Ronan read, his eyes got a little misty. He couldn't begin to imagine what Castiel must have felt when he pulled out his own oxygen tube, or what Deanna must have been going through when she did all this.

If it wasn't for Shelley spilling the beans, he would have been left in the dark for the rest of his life. After all, all the records were spotless back then. He had no idea there was a guy named Castiel, let alone where to start looking.

As for the girl who held his hand, Deanna always claimed it was her. However, Cordelia was someone who didn't like to talk about things, and even if it was her, she wouldn't admit it.

Of course, it could have been a stranger.

The document also mentioned Castiel's likes and quirks:
