The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 171

Although Ronan was a beast in the sheets, he never made Cordelia feel embarrassed in public, despite never reimbursing her for expenses.

Cordelia thought, "Maybe mom was right, it was rare someone stuck with you for life. Since our time together was limited, we should cherish every moment."

She wanted to make amends with Ronan. After all, the incident that happened wasn't his doing. A few days later, Cordelia received a beautifully wrapped package from overseas. She knew it was Ronan's underwear that had finally arrived.

Considering she'd be at work when the delivery arrived, she had used her office address instead. During lunch, Cordelia put the underwear in a small bag, planning to drop it off at Ronan's office after lunch.

"What did you buy?" Brooklyn saw the exquisite little bag that Cordelia was carrying and asked her.

"Something for him."

"Who? Mr. Evans? What is it, exactly?"

"Underwear."

"Wow, you're really dedicated, huh? Why not just send it to your home? Why let the whole office know?" Brooklyn teased.

"You don't get it." Cordelia explained, worried that if she sent it home, the delivery might disturb Barney; if she left it in the locker, she'd likely forget to grab it.

"You should hurry and give it to him, he'll surely appreciate it."

Cordelia's hand paused while eating. Would he really appreciate it? "Should we leave it in his office while he's out for lunch?" Cordelia asked Brooklyn.

"What's the deal with you two? Aren't you married? Why do it when he's not around?"

"I don't want to see him."

"But you have to sleep with him."

"We don't talk when we're in bed." Cordelia thought of their limited conversations these days, and their interactions were mostly physical. It was as if he was venting his anger and she was trying to soothe her resentment towards him. Their encounters were more intense than usual.

Cordelia delivered Ronan's underwear alone. She figured he'd be out for lunch by now, so she cautiously opened the door to his office.

"What are you doing?" He looked at the sudden appearance by the door, frowning.

"You're here?"
