The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 178

Two shirts for five grand. It was a hefty sum for Cordelia nowadays.

Random folks couldn’t just waltz into the Audit Department. The people Cordelia was dealing with at the reception were the staff from "The Suit Gallery."

Cordelia asked if she could pay next month. They chuckled and said, "Ms. Haselwood, we gotta settle the bills every month."

"But I forgot my phone," Cordelia said.

"No worries, I'll wait downstairs. You can pay when you get it."

Caught between a rock and a hard place, she didn't know what to do. Cordelia felt awkward about borrowing money from Brooklyn. She knew Brooklyn was barely making ends meet, especially with her mother topping up her income each month. Plus, she could picture how Brooklyn would react. "You, borrowing money? You own half the building and you're short on cash?"

Asking others for money would embarrass Ronan. The wife of the boss borrowing money?

Just as Cordelia was cringing with embarrassment, Emerson walked in from the hall. "What's up?" He asked, noticing her awkwardness.

"Oh, someone came to deliver suits and I forgot my phone. Can't pay," Cordelia explained.

"I got it. How much?" Emerson already had his phone out.

"Five grand."

Emerson transferred the money.

When Cordelia turned to leave, she heard the receptionists whispering downstairs. They were probably gossiping about her. She was used to it. Being in the public eye was her norm.

Cordelia was wondering how to pay back Emerson. Even now, she had to maintain her image and not let others know about her predicament. Looked like she had to resort to that guy.

After work, Emerson went to Ronan's office. "Time to pay up. Your wife borrowed my money," Emerson told Ronan.

"What money?"
