The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 195

Cordelia heaved a sigh. If she was going to visit the baby, she had to bring something. After much thought, Cordelia decided to bite the bullet and get an expensive baby bracelet.

On Saturday noon, Cordelia went to the mall alone, spent six hundred bucks, and bought a baby bracelet for Brooklyn's nephew. After all, it was her first time meeting the kid. She couldn’t be stingy.

Cordelia quickly did the math in her head and realized her paycheck for the month was running thin. Just as she was sulking about the money, she received a text that someone had deposited six thousand into her account.

The payer was not Ronan. It definitely wasn't him.

Cordelia was cautious about a potential trap, like something from Deanna, and didn’t ask about it. But she was totally puzzled. Who the hell was it?

She and Brooklyn decided to take a cab to Sunnydale Meadows, where Edwin's place was. When entering the community, Cordelia saw a family moving out. The landlord was mumbling, "This guy just paid six thousand in rent. I heard this place was previously rented by the big star Deanna."

Cordelia frowned slightly. Six thousand, Deanna.

Suddenly she remembered that Ronan had kicked Deanna out of Sunnydale Meadows that day. Could it be that Ronan rented out the place and gave Cordelia the rent?

After some thought, Cordelia texted Ronan, [Is the rent from Sunnydale Meadows from you?]

[Yep, just some pocket change.]

Cordelia thought to herself, her concept of "pocket change" must have been quite different from Ronan's.

Relieved that the six thousand wasn’t some shady plot, Cordelia felt at ease.

Brooklyn's nephew was really cute, all soft and cuddly in her arms. The baby laughed, and it tickled Cordelia's heart. Plus, the baby smelled so good.

Cordelia handed the baby bracelet to Brooklyn's sister, who said that it was too expensive.

"Just take it. She's Ronan's wife, after all," Brooklyn told her sister.

Cordelia smiled, but thought to herself, “I'm not the rich person you think I am.”

Cordelia took a picture of the baby and posted a photo of her holding the baby on Facebook.

[So cute.] was all she wrote in the caption.

By five in the afternoon, Cordelia and Brooklyn went their separate ways, and she headed to her mom's place.

Shelley served Cordelia the chicken soup she had prepared especially for her. Seeing Shelley again, Cordelia felt a mix of emotions and regret.

"Mom," Cordelia said.

"My sweet child," Shelley said, stroking Cordelia's hair. "Don't hold a grudge against me."

"Mom, I hold no grudge against you. Why would I?" As she spoke, tears welled up in Cordelia's eyes. She was just resentful of her biological mother. Why didn't she want her?

Shelley was so kind, but she wasn't her biological mother.

"How have things been with Ronan recently?" Shelley asked Cordelia, who was enjoying her chicken soup.

"Pretty good. I felt a lot lighter after I gave him the money, but he's planning to open a factory soon. Also, he rented out the house at Sunnydale Meadows, the one Deanna used to live in. He gave me the rent." Cordelia said, telling Shelley all about it while sipping her soup.

Shelley sighed and stroked Cordelia's head, "My silly girl."

"Mom, how am I silly? I'm very smart. I passed all my courses," Cordelia argued seriously.
