The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 199

After the afternoon tutoring session ended, Emerson was ready to leave, while Cordelia was tidying up.

"You're wearing glasses now?" Emerson asked Ronan.

Cordelia turned to look at Ronan, seeing him wearing a pair of silver-rimmed glasses. His usual stern and calm demeanor was somewhat diminished, making him seem more gentle and graceful.

"Yes."

"You like to use this to attract girls, don't you?" Emerson said before leaving.

Cordelia picked up her bag and asked him, "Why are you wearing glasses?"

"How do I look?" His gazes were sharp and charming, looking at Cordelia through the lenses.

"Very..."

"Very what?" He pressed, not letting Cordelia off the hook.

"Very attractive."

"Attractive to you?" He asked again.

Cordelia nodded, "Yes, very attractive."

"He always wanted me to look like this." Ronan added.

"He?" Cordelia was puzzled, then realized, "Your father?"

"Of course," Ronan said, walking over from the desk, grabbing Cordelia's hand, "Let's go."

Cordelia agreed and followed him.

Once in the car, Cordelia turned to ask him, "Did he want you to become a scholar?"

"Yes," he responded, driving and answering at the same time.

Cordelia felt that Ronan's mood was not very good today, as if he was troubled by something from the past, and seemed down.

"What kind of scholar?"

"Like my grandfather," Ronan sneered, "What's the use of being a scholar? In the end, it was me..."

This was the first time Ronan had ever stopped mid-sentence. He was not usually like this.

"A scholar?" Cordelia nodded thoughtfully. "No wonder you love reading so much and don't like socializing. If you really became a college professor, I wonder how many girls would be infatuated with you." Cordelia fell into deep thought.

"Would you be infatuated with me?" He asked.

"Maybe," Cordelia smiled, "But if you resent his expectations so much, why would you wear glasses to appease him?" Cordelia asked.

"To avoid conflict, and to avoid him getting angry," Ronan turned and said with a frown, "Why are you asking so many questions? Shouldn't you be the one to worry?"

"What do I have to worry about?" Cordelia asked nonchalantly.
