The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 243

The Colby family.

When Thomas saw Jamie grabbing his car keys to leave, he had the housekeeper stop him.

"At this ungodly hour, where are you off to? Don't you have any sense at all? She's another man's woman," Thomas raged.

"They're divorced now. Their marriage wasn't exactly a fairy tale, to begin with," Jamie responded, hastening to put on his coat. He had a gut feeling that something was wrong with Cordelia, otherwise, she wouldn't have sent a single text saying "Okay" in the middle of the night. "Why did you make her move out? Why can't you tolerate her presence?"

"Jamie, is this how you talk to your old man? She's another man's woman, and the kid she's carrying may not be yours. What's your rush? If the children aren't Ronan's, why would he take Cordelia back? She was all too happy when she was packing up. It's a spat between a husband and wife. Why are you acting like a jester in the middle of it? Don't you feel embarrassed?" Thomas was utterly disappointed in Jamie.

Jamie was left speechless by the counterargument.

Being a young man in his prime, he was naturally stronger than the housekeeper. He quickly got in his car and headed straight for Cordelia's place. Half an hour later, Jamie arrived at Cordelia's doorstep and rang the doorbell.

Upon hearing the doorbell, Cordelia sprang from the couch to answer it. Seeing Jamie at the door, her heart finally settled.

Ronan initially wondered who the first visitor to their new home could be. But when he saw Jamie, it all made sense. No need to ask, it was Cordelia who told him where they lived.

Cordelia had been sitting there not for idle chatter with him but waiting for Jamie. She was afraid that if the person at the door was him, he would turn Jamie away. Such foresight!

"You're here?" Cordelia asked, relieved.

"Yes, are you okay?" Jamie looked over Cordelia, relieved to see her unharmed. He followed Cordelia inside.

Ronan, sitting in the living room, kept an eye on the entrance.

"Oh, Jamie and I need to talk," Cordelia said to Ronan, then pulled Jamie into her room.

She was terrified, and only now could her heart settle. "I was so scared, really scared," Cordelia confessed, patting her chest.

"What happened?" Jamie asked.

Cordelia quietly told Jamie what had happened earlier, her fear that Ronan would harm her babies.

"Do you think I should tell him the children are his?" Cordelia asked Jamie.

Jamie thought for a moment, then said, "I think it might not be about you, probably about Kendra."
