The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 258

Ronan flicked off the light, switched on the dim bedside lamp, and began undressing Cordelia.

Cordelia remained silent, her body trembling until she was completely bare.

Cordelia used to have a perfectly sculpted body, with curves in all the right places. Now, her figure was different, yet mysteriously alluring. Ronan swallowed hard, then turned off the light. It had been a while since he had sex with Cordelia, and he was experiencing a certain restlessness, like that of a honeymooner.

Cordelia remained silent throughout. Afterwards, she was drenched in sweat, having been on edge the entire time. She was worried about startling the baby, and concerned about his satisfaction. In short, she was on pins and needles.

Cordelia fell into a deep sleep, while Ronan gently touched her belly from behind.

The next day, Ronan was woken by the ringing of Cordelia's cell phone. She was still sleeping. He took her phone and saw it was Jamie calling. He turned Cordelia's phone to silent, letting the ringing continue until it stopped. Then, he saw that Jamie had messaged Cordelia on Facebook. [Are you up? I'm near your place, can I swing by?]

After a moment of thought, Ronan replied, [Sure.]

Then, Ronan leaned against the headboard, perusing Cordelia's phone. She and Jamie had quite a lot of contact. But he couldn't find anything suspicious, just messages from when they'd initially met in California, arranged to have dinner. Jamie tried to hang out with Cordelia, but she was always holed up in the library, not answering his messages, so there wasn't much communication.

Just then, an email arrived on Cordelia's phone. Ronan opened it and saw it was an offer from UC Davis. Ronan glanced at Cordelia and sarcastically thought, “What a diligent student, carrying twins and sleeping next to him, yet her heart was already across the ocean.” He hadn't realized her studious disposition.

Cordelia had applied for admission next January, a year from now. Ronan wasn't sure what her plan was, whether she intended to move with Jamie and the kids or leave the kids at home and go alone.
