The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 290

It was pouring rain today with thunder rumbling in the distance. Yet, the soundproofing in the private room of the club was quite good, so none of the patrons inside noticed.

Ronan approached the door.

"Mr. Evans, it's raining. Here's an umbrella." A waiter stood there offering an umbrella.

"No need." Ronan declined and headed to the front of the club, getting into his car.

Looking at time, it was already eleven at night. She was probably asleep by now. Ever since she got pregnant, she had been sleeping early and waking up late.

But he hoped she hadn't fallen asleep. He hoped she was waiting for him, keeping the door open.

His car headed towards Garden Estates.

......

The thunderous sound and the pouring rain outside made Cordelia restless. Her baby was kicking fiercely, and the twins were tumbling around inside her. She was worried about Ronan. She knew he hadn't taken an umbrella today and was worried he might have gotten drenched in the rain. Despite her anxiety, she wanted to appear indifferent and didn't call him. Moreover, he had gone to a club, a place she didn't really care about.

She paced around the room, accidentally knocking her hand against the corner of the desk, an immediate bruise forming on the back of her hand.

Feeling restless, she started writing in her diary about his lack of an umbrella, her worry for him, and her conflicting feelings of wanting to care but not showing it. After finishing her writing, he still hadn't returned.

When she heard the sound of the door unlocking, Cordelia hurriedly got into bed. She didn't want him to know she was worried. She closed her eyes, lying on her side towards the door, quietly listening to the noises outside.

He opened the door, changed his shoes at the entrance, and entered the room without turning on the light. She was already asleep, not waiting up for him as he had hoped. Ronan went to wash up in the bathroom outside.

Half an hour later, Ronan got into bed, turned on the light, and fell asleep holding Cordelia.

Cordelia knew all of this. She didn't sleep well that night.

The next day when he was getting dressed, she knew. He lightly flicked Cordelia's face, then went to the kitchen to eat.

"Mr. Evans, what time did you get home last night?" Janice asked Ronan at the breakfast table.

"Almost midnight. What time did Cordelia go to bed?" Ronan asked.

"It was raining heavily last night, so she went back to her room early. Even though she was in her room, I don't think she slept well, torturing herself like that. She's worried about you but doesn't voice it out, poor girl." Janice explained.

"Really?" Ronan asked. He didn't believe it.
