The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 358

"What are you doing?" Cordelia blocked Brooklyn's path.

"Ms. Haselwood? My boss would like to have a word with you in the car."

Cordelia looked puzzled. "Your boss? Who?"

It couldn't be Jamie. Jamie wasn't one to pull such a mysterious stunt.

"Back off, or I'm calling the cops!" Brooklyn warned.

To her surprise, the man politely addressed Brooklyn, "We mean no harm to Cordelia, just a chat, twenty minutes, half an hour tops. You don't have to accompany us, but if we don't release her by then, you can call the cops."

Cordelia and Brooklyn exchanged a glance. Curiosity piqued, Cordelia said to Brooklyn, "Wait for me across the street. If I'm not back in half an hour, call the cops!"

"Alright," Brooklyn stated solemnly, then went over to the BBQ stand across the street. With plenty of people around, she felt safe. Her gaze never left the luxury vehicle on the other side.

In the car.

"Ms. Haselwood, Samantha's grandmother was attacked. She was removed from The High Society's cast, and nearly had her face ruined by acid. You're aware of these events, right?" A deep male voice came from the passenger seat.

Cordelia couldn't make out his face, only that he was wearing a black suit. His voice was chilling. The atmosphere inside the car was oppressive, heavy, and sinister, certainly no joking matter. Cordelia's heart started to pound. Samantha had mentioned these incidents were because of a ring.

Turned out Samantha was telling the truth.

"I'm aware." Cordelia's face turned grim.

"Good. We've now identified you as the original owner of the ring. These misfortunes might befall you next. Just a heads up, Pulse Technologies, your husband's investment, got cut off by The High Society. This is just a small punishment to show you that we indeed have the power. As for what unfortunate events may occur in the future, we don't know. It could be your son or your husband. Your husband is powerful, but he can't fight us from the shadows. Ms. Haselwood, divorce Ronan."
