"Go ahead," Ronan said.
Just moments ago, Ronan hadn't been holding an umbrella. The light drizzle had been falling onto the tips of his hair, giving him a sort of poignant aura that made Cordelia feel a chill run down her spine. She had kept wanting to hold the umbrella over his head.
Ronan suddenly realized he couldn't feel the rain on his head anymore. He thought the rain had stopped, so he looked up and found an umbrella over his head.
A wave of emotions surged within him, thinking it was Cordelia, but when he turned around, it was actually Harold.
As Ronan turned, his gaze flicked towards Cordelia. She was following Peter, as obedient as a schoolgirl. So, he was overthinking.
On the other end of the phone, he was given a thorough report of the situation.
"Mr. Evans, you'll catch a cold if you stay in the rain," Harold said after hanging up the phone.
"Thanks," Ronan said before quickly rejoining the crowd.
Shortly after, Harold followed him. He had noticed Cordelia's constant glances towards Ronan, who was without an umbrella. She probably felt uncomfortable seeing him soaked, wanting to hold the umbrella for him, but too worried about appearances to do so. So, he had gone instead.
Soon after, Ronan returned to the crowd and said to Peter, "Something's come up in Millstone, I need to head back there. Let's call it a day for the inspection."
"Is it serious?" Peter asked with concern.
"Oh, it's nothing. I've already finished inspecting Edith Hills, let's start the project. Talia will be in charge here," Ronan said before turning to leave, disappearing into the crowd without a backward glance.
Cordelia watched his retreating figure, wondering, “What happened in Millstone? What could have made Ronan rush back there so urgently?”
Ronan returned to his grandfather's house, called for Callum, and headed to Millstone.
