Although Cordelia was dismissive, Petra took the words to heart, wondering when Ronan might show up?
As soon as class was over, Cordelia left the classroom.
Despite two ill-timed messages during the lecture, Cordelia’s class was a resounding success, easily earning the title of a quality course.
Petra took the course recommendation form home. She kept recalling Ronan's text: he was coming to Birchwood tomorrow.
Petra wanted to see Ronan again. Unfortunately, even if he did come, there was no guarantee that he'd want to see her child. After all, he wasn’t the father and had no connection to the child.
Petra even resorted to flipping a coin in a childish attempt to predict his actions.
Heads: he would come, Tails: he wouldn’t.
When it landed on heads, she would get excited. But if it was tails, she would become incredibly anxious. In the end, there were more anxious moments than there were happy ones.
The only reason he was coming to Petra’s place was because of Jayson. At that moment, Petra was watching her child playing with blocks on the floor, and she hatched a plan.
The next morning, after a meeting at Empower Operations, Ronan came to Cordelia's apartment in Unity Hall.
Cordelia was at home, writing a paper and doing research, her glasses perched on her nose. When she opened the door to find Ronan standing there, her first question was, "Where's Callum?"
"You only care about Callum?" Cordelia asked, throwing a metaphorical bucket of cold water over Ronan, who was clearly displeased.
Cordelia lowered her gaze slightly, "Aren’t you standing right here in front of me?"
"He's at the office, Emerson is looking after him for a few days."
"How long is a few days?" Cordelia was relentless.
"Couple of days, depending on the situation. Why? Worry about your own son?" It was clear that Ronan was getting impatient with Cordelia's constant inquiries about Callum.
Feeling slightly relieved, Cordelia wasn’t as on edge as before. She thought: With so many people at the office, even if Alana tried anything, it wouldn't be easy. Hopefully, Emerson would be competent.
Cordelia opened the door wider and let Ronan in.
