The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 498

[We haven't decided yet,] Cordelia replied.

[Where are you now?] He asked again.

[I'm at school with Brooklyn.]

[I'll swing by and pick you guys up. We can figure out where to go on the way.]

"Sounds good.]

Ronan was no stranger to their school. His pickup truck was parked nearby, ready to whisk Cordelia, Brooklyn, and Andi away for the impromptu outing.

The three of them squeezed into the backseat.

"Hey, godfather!" Andi greeted Ronan enthusiastically.

"Hey, sweetheart."

"Now we have both your godfather and godmother around," Brooklyn said, turning to Cordelia. "What's in your bag, Cordelia? It's so hard."

Brooklyn had inadvertently bumped into Cordelia's bag. Remembering the leftovers from last night's dinner still inside, Cordelia tried to deflect the question. "Books, maybe? I always carry books in my bag."

"Oh, okay." Brooklyn, not much of a bookworm, didn't press the issue further.

Soon, they arrived at the seafood grill Cordelia had chosen. It wasn't ideal, but at this hour, all the upscale restaurants were fully booked. The grill was a new business offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal, so Cordelia had settled on it.

Despite the grill's lack of sophistication, Ronan chose to bite his tongue for Cordelia's sake. They settled at a table for four, with Ronan naturally taking the seat next to Cordelia.

As the server brought out their meals, Brooklyn started gossiping about a mutual acquaintance.
