When Cordelia arrived at Empower Operations, she immediately got down to business with an internal meeting to discuss company decision-making. The vibe was positive, but as the team moved on to the more lighthearted task of choosing their homes, Cordelia could only look on with envy.
"I'll take the penthouse on the east side," declared the firm's legal director.
Peter shook his head. "Sorry, but that one's taken."
"By whom?" the legal eagle inquired. "That's a sprawling space, over two thousand eight hundred square feet!"
"Who else but Mr. Evans?" came the reply.
Cordelia's heart skipped a beat at the mention of Ronan. Was he buying a place here, too?
"The house is a freebie for Mr. Evans, right?" the legal director joked.
"Of course," Peter said matter-of-factly, "Mr. Evans is the client. He's practically building a home for himself – why would he pay? And it's not just that one. He's got the two units next to it as well. The same goes for me if I wanted a house, no charge."
The room fell silent. It was a tough act to follow when others had such perks.
"Cordelia, aren't you buying?" Peter asked.
She grimaced awkwardly, "Oh, no, I'm not."
Emerson, who had been observing, gave Cordelia a knowing look.
After the meeting, Emerson escorted Cordelia out and then checked into a hotel. He called Ronan, "Senior, you should've seen Cordelia's face when she was looking at the houses. She looked so disappointed, why not just lend her some cash?"
