The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 614

Ronan figured the whole drama with Petra was all her doing, but how did she know about Daisy’s jump from Edith Hills?

Before long, Petra called, sounding a bit panicked. “Thank goodness Sam still has some loyalty to an old classmate; he agreed to pull the article.”

Ronan paused, then said, “You’ve done me a solid, Petra. It's only fair I send something your way. What would you like?”

“Ronan, don’t be like that. I’d move heaven and earth for you, in this life and the next. Asking for a reward for this? It wouldn't sit right with me. As long as Edith Hills is in the clear, I’m good,” Petra insisted.

“Could you get me a copy of his draft to look over?”

“Sure, I’ll ask him for it.”

After hanging up, Ronan thought to himself: Petra was not someone to take lightly. She was cunning and ruthless, and you never knew when she might turn on you.

The draft arrived, and Ronan pored over it. It was meticulously crafted, with clear logic, detailing Daisy’s fall to a tee, framing it as a murder. There were hints throughout the piece meant to drive down property values at Edith Hills, but one particular term caught his attention: “apparently.” It was a term more commonly used in Hong Kong than on the mainland, and Petra had been fond of it since high school.

Without a doubt, Ronan knew the draft was Petra’s handiwork; she had orchestrated the entire affair!

If it weren’t for the fact that she still had something on Jayson, her days would be numbered.

Ronan and Emerson took Petra out for a meal, both showering her with warm attention throughout.

Petra was smug, thinking she had made a good impression on Ronan.

In her mind, she had done Ronan a huge favor. If Edith Hills lost its appeal and Ronan took a financial hit, that was a big deal. So, Ronan had to at least appear grateful to Petra.

Both Ronan and Petra understood one thing: Petra held the knowledge of past murders at Edith Hills. This time she had been appeased, but if her future demands weren’t met, she could dredge up old skeletons, and unsold properties would be the least of Ronan’s worries.
