No sooner had Victoria shut the bedroom door than she gushed to Cordelia, "Oh my gosh, he's so dashing and such a gentleman! Spill the beans, Cordy. If you weren't wrapped up with Ronan, would you have fallen for Harold?"
Cordelia thought for a moment. "Maybe, but you know, once you've seen the world, it's hard to settle for a small pond."
Right on cue, Callum chimed in, "Aunt Victoria, got a crush on my big bro? You better snag him quick so he becomes part of our family!"
Victoria flicked Callum's forehead playfully. "You little rascal."
Initially, Victoria had been pretty relaxed about Harold's military service. But now, with a year still to go, her patience was wearing thin. She worried that with his good looks, he might catch the eye of some high-ranking officer's daughter. And then what? She'd be the homewrecker in a military scandal!
Victoria was seriously troubled.
"Just hang in there, it's only another year," Cordelia advised. "What's meant to be will be. If he's not the one, don't stress about it. Focus on making money and getting that dream house."
"Right," Victoria resolved. Within a year, she'd be rolling in dough.
While they were chatting, Cordelia's phone buzzed with a message on Messenger from their old college class president.
[Cordelia, why didn't you make it to the reunion?]
[Oh, I was planning to, but something came up at home last minute.] Cordelia replied.
[Right. Hey, do you remember Robin, our department head back in the day? We were talking about him at the reunion. Turns out, a bunch of us were bullied by him, but we were too young and scared to speak up. Now that we're older, we're not holding back. At least four or five of us suffered his abuse, some even sexually harassed. I hope you were spared, Cordelia; with your looks, we were all worried for you.]
