The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 634

As Emerson asked the question, a sudden, inexplicable pang of jealousy twisted in his gut.

The girl shyly looked down, "Yeah, I accepted it."

"Seems like you two are pretty tight," Emerson said with a hint of sarcasm, "coming over to visit your future mother-in-law today, huh?"

Daniella ducked her head again, murmuring, "Yeah, we're close."

"You seem well-spoken, like you come from a good background. I bet your folks have already sorted out a house for you, right?" Emerson prodded further.

Daniella thought to herself: What's with the third degree, Uncle? But then again, I did walk right into his hands today.

"Although I was raised in a large family home, my parents aren't exactly rolling in dough," Daniella hastily explained, waving her hands as if to absolve her father of any implied wealth.

"You're saying you're short on cash?" Emerson persisted, unrelenting.

Daniella thought: Typical nosy elder, mind your own beeswax.

"Oh, it's not that. My parents have prepared a place for me, close to where I work," Daniella's tense smile relaxed as she spoke.

"Ah, looking to bring a son-in-law into the fold. Is Harold up for being the 'man of the house'?" Emerson had barely finished when Janice emerged from her room.

Her room was on the ground floor, opening right into the living room, and she had overheard the conversation. Instantly, her face paled.

She did not want Harold to be the 'man of the house'.

Upon seeing Janice join them, Daniella quickly rose from the couch, thinking: Great, old man, you had to ask that question, right when Janice could hear.

Janice stepped forward.
