The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 646

“Oh, but Ronan, there's something serious we need to discuss about Jayson. I think his inherent psychological issues are virtually nonexistent. If nothing triggers them, they probably won't surface his whole life,” Marie said.

“What do you mean?” Ronan asked, furrowing his brow slightly. He had a hunch about the situation but wanted a professional opinion.

“Well, it seems someone's been pushing his buttons. My guess is it's Petra. She might be threatening or even bullying him. The other day, I said something to Jayson, and he just retreated into a corner. After all this time, that kind of reaction shouldn't be happening, but it is. This isn't a mental illness—it's psychological trauma. Ronan, you should check if Petra's been mistreating Jayson,” Marie explained.

Ronan stayed silent, lost in thought, his brows still knitted.

Cordelia glanced at him and felt a twinge of fear whenever she saw that contemplative look on his face.

Is he cooking up another one of his schemes?

Cordelia knew that Shelley’s downfall, Deanna’s demise, and Tabitha’s imprisonment were all his doing. He had tolerated Petra for so long, she figured he must be about to capitalize on some weakness of hers.

Although Cordelia had no love for Petra and disliked her cunning ways, she wasn’t one to play dirty. She believed karma would eventually catch up with wrongdoers. It wasn't her place, or anyone’s, to play judge and jury.

But seeing Ronan deep in thought, Cordelia felt a wave of dread. She was scared he might be devising another lethal strategy.

However, with Marie in the car, Cordelia kept her worries to herself.

After they dropped Marie off at her office, Cordelia asked Ronan seriously, “What were you thinking about just now?”

They were stopped at a red light, and Ronan turned to look at her. “Since when do you need to monitor my thoughts?”

“I know you want Petra gone because she’s got dirt on you about Daisy’s suicide and keeps coming after you. But if you’re planning to get rid of her, I don’t agree!” Cordelia’s voice trembled, her face clouded with concern.
