After a long silence from Theo, Haillie spoke up again.
"Theo, you know the score with our family. If you pull out your investment now, the Knotts family's business will go down the drain!"
Theo, standing on the open-air balcony of the suite, lit up a cigarette and looked at the nervous Haillie.
"The Blanchet Corporation isn't a charity. The problems in your family didn't just pop up overnight. The money the Blanchet Corporation has been investing in your family has been dwindling year after year. I've been turning a blind eye because we've been pals for years. But now, if you didn't consider me a friend, then there's no reason for the Blanchet Corporation to continue helping the Knotts family."
Haillie shook her head frantically, trying to explain, "Theo, no! How could you think that? When did I ever stop considering you a friend? We've known each other since we were kids; you're one of my closest friends!"
Theo raised an eyebrow, blowing out a puff of smoke, "Really? If we're friends, why do you keep hurting my wife?"
Haillie was extremely embarrassed but also somewhat defiant, "Theo, we are friends, but I don't think I have any ties to Ellinor. I admit I can't stand her arrogance, so I wanted to teach her a lesson..."
Theo cut her off, "My wife is my business. If you dare to mess with her, you're messing with me!"
Theo's words left Haillie dumbfounded.
Then, she lowered her head timidly, "I'm sorry, Theo. I was wrong, and I won't do it again. Please, for the sake of our friendship, don't pull out your investment."
"Do you really think I'd still consider you a friend after you played around with my wife's safety, Haillie?"
"Theo, are you really going to cut ties with me because of Ellinor? We've known each other for so many years."
With a burning cigarette between his fingers, Theo flicked off the ash indifferently, "Haillie, you better pray my wife's okay. If she feels anything wrong today, you and your family will pay a much heavier price than the withdrawal of my investment."
