Elise was totally lost until Ariella grabbed her hand, squeezed it quietly, and led her towards the sofa.
Originally, Chett had only saved a seat for Ariella, but seeing that Everett didn't object, everyone subtly made room for Elise next to Ariella.
And so, Ariella and Elise sat among a group of business bigwigs, especially Ariella, who was right next to Everett. Before Everett could speak, she poured herself a drink, turned and smiled, "I haven't had the chance to properly thank Mr. Carter for helping me out the other day."
Her voice was soft, as if trying to be low-key, but everyone present could hear her clearly, and their gazes towards Ariella became more intriguing.
Everett leaned back on the sofa, just as casual as he had been in the nightclub, took a puff of his cigarette, and said, "And how do you plan to thank me properly?"
Ariella replied, "I know what you value most, and there's always time in the future for me to repay you with my actions." With that, she raised her glass to Everett and downed it in one gulp.
Others couldn't quite figure out the relationship between Ariella and Everett, but their conversation seemed to hold deeper meanings. Why would a notorious man help a beautiful woman? It was obvious, and everyone present knew.
Nobody dared to gossip about Everett's private life, but seeing his attitude towards Ariella and allowing Elise to sit with them, it seemed probable that he was trying to win a smile from this beautiful lady. Everyone was struggling to get close to Everett, but now they saw an opportunity. Not only did they have to lift Ariella up, but also Elise, who was by her side.
Several people actively engaged in conversation with Elise, and the business cards that hadn't been handed out earlier were now eagerly exchanged. Ariella caught a glimpse of a balding old man exchanging cards with Elise and jokingly warned her, "Be careful not to give out your hotel room card instead of your business card."
It was this old man who had teased Elise earlier, suggesting she give Everett a hotel room card instead of her business card. Now, Ariella's light-hearted comment was clearly intended to embarrass him.
Sure enough, the balding old man's face changed, and he quickly looked at Everett, who showed no emotion. He hurriedly apologized with a smile, "I was just joking with Ms. Torres earlier, please don't take it to heart."
Ariella's expression didn't change as she replied, "It's all in good fun, you shouldn't take it to heart either."
The more beautiful a woman is, the more likely people are to think of her as a cunning and dangerous beauty, especially when Ariella was all smiles. Everyone could only think of it as the bait that hid the hook and knew better than to mess with her. Not only was Everett someone they couldn't afford to provoke, but his companions were just as untouchable.
It seemed that Everett didn't intend to stay and "mingle" for long, as he soon stood up, prompting everyone else to stand as well. Each person was complimenting him and expressing their hope to have dinner together sometime, but only Ariella sincerely said, "Take care, see you tomorrow."
Did Everett just meet with anyone he wanted?
Ariella was usually quiet, but when she spoke, she was astonishing.
Although Everett didn't say anything, those with keen eyes had already confirmed the relationship between him and Ariella. After Everett left, everyone greeted Ariella with smiles, wishing they could be become her best friends on the spot.
Ariella decided that it was best to leave, leaving Elise to deal with the aftermath. There were plenty of people willing to associate with Everett, and if they couldn't get close to Ariella, they would at least try to get close to her best friend. After all, pillow talk was more valuable than anything they could say.
