A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 253

Matilda hesitated, caught between the urge to rouse them from slumber and the wish to let the moment linger in its peaceful repose. As for Adrian, with his door left ajar as though inviting trouble, she couldn't help but wonder if he ever worried about a break-in...

With a sigh, Matilda crouched down, her long hair cascading over Adrian's face. Tickled by the strands, he groggily opened his eyes to find Matilda examining him intently. Propping himself up on his elbows, Adrian sat up, causing Logan, who was nestled deep in sleep within his arms, to nearly tumble out of the couch. Swiftly, Adrian caught him and gently placed him back on the cushions.

Looking up at Matilda, his voice was laced with the huskiness of sleep, “What’s up?”

“You let Logan have a sleepover?” Matilda inquired.

Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, Adrian stood and shrugged off his pajamas in favor of a shirt. As he stretched, the lines of his back were a testament to his fitness, his abs etched like a sculpture. Matilda clicked her tongue disapprovingly, "Put on some clothes; it’s not a good look."

Adrian chuckled, now fully awake from her comment, “Why are you here so early? What were you up to last night?”

Matilda’s gaze lingered on her son, who was sleeping so soundly in someone else’s home, and she debated whether to wake him or not.

“Went out for drinks.”

Adrian paused mid-dress, his shirt half-buttoned as he approached her. Matilda stepped back, whispering sharply, “Button up!”

“Chill out, I’m not a delicate flower,” Adrian retorted, amused by her reaction. “Who did you go out with? Orson?”

It seemed he hadn’t heard about Mason’s ordeal; he must have been preoccupied with Logan and their puzzle games the night before.

“Just some colleagues from the studio,” Matilda moved towards the door. “I won’t wake Logan; just make sure he comes back when he wakes up.”

Adrian reached out from behind and caught her, “What’s the rush?”

Matilda snorted derisively, “What else do you have in mind?”

Her temper seemed to be flaring more fiercely these days.

Adrian didn’t respond but continued to study her face, then his gaze shifted to her neck, pupils constricting sharply at the sight.

“You…” he fixated on a particular mark, “did you and Orson...?”
