The man on the other side put all his strength into flipping the boulder, veins bulging on his arms from the effort. "Get this lady out of here, we can't hold it any longer!"
The moment the pregnant woman was carried away, the boulder crashed down again with a thunderous roar, the men's fingers bleeding from the strain.
Tears streaming down her face, the pregnant woman was at a loss for words, "You all are my heroes..."
"Now's not the time for formalities, ma'am. You get to the hospital and bring that baby into the world safely, don't you worry about a thing," the group responded with grins, as they carried the woman towards the ambulance. Her husband, hearing the commotion, burst through another group of helpers, his body covered in blood. The moment he saw his wife, tears streamed down his face, and he dropped to his knees to thank the men, "My wife and child owe their lives to you, I can't thank you enough..."
"Stop it, brother, we've got families too, we understand! And look at you, hurt from trying to save others. Now, go with your wife to the hospital, we're alright!"
The man, still in tears, joined his wife in the ambulance, repeatedly saying, "This little one is blessed, lucky to have such good people around... blessed..."
"Make sure to get their contact info, we can't let these heroes feel unappreciated!" the pregnant woman held her husband's hand firmly, "Once I'm out of danger, you need to go back and help too, okay?"
"Of course, anything for you..." Their hands clenched together tightly as the ambulance siren wailed into the distance.
"I'll go grab some water for you guys from nearby!"
"Miss, you better come down from there, it's dangerous!"
When Yvan arrived at the scene, he was met with this sight.
Matilda stood atop the ruins, like the last savior of the world, her pale face marked with determination, her body slender but her posture unwavering and strong.
In that moment, Yvan felt as if his heart was pierced, his eyes reddening, the world around him narrowing down to that lone, slender figure. He called out with emotion, "Matilda!"
