A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 365

Matilda stared at Yvan, puzzled by his intense focus on a simple egg. As she moved to clear the kitchenware, she barely caught him eating the egg, not sure when he managed to do so. Their fingers brushed as they both reached for the plate, and Matilda jerked her hand back as if shocked by electricity.

"Sorry..." she said, a bit unnerved, watching him place the dishes in the sink. Yvan's posture was tense, as if he was a bow drawn tight, struggling to contain some emotion. Matilda turned to face him, her voice soft, "Yvan, the hospital bills... did you cover them for me?"

Yvan looked back at her, his handsome features shadowed by a depth in his eyes that Matilda found unsettling yet profound.

"Don't worry about the expenses."

"But..."

"It's what I owe you."

After this exchange, silence fell between them. Matilda felt stiff, the pain from her injuries nagging at her, wanting nothing more than to crawl back into her bed. Yet, with Yvan still in the room, bearing a gaze heavy with unspoken secrets, she felt overwhelmed.

Perhaps there had been something significant between her and this man, but she had forgotten.

Forgetting seemed like a good strategy. She took a step forward, while Yvan remained motionless.

Flashes of memory crossed Matilda's mind, bringing a sharp pain deep in her brain. She closed her eyes, frowning, as if hearing echoes of cries and the piercing sound of sirens tearing through the sky—

"Doctor, save her! Doctor!"
